View Full Version : How to ruin a Nissan vs Toyota argument

So fellow BFC member Ryvita has just splashed out a mighty fine lump of cash on a Toyota. Cue the friendly Nissan v. Toyota rivalry.
Unfortunately, the following pictures singlehandedly kill the argument for me :(

First picture: Bottoming out on a motorway and having the exhaust fall off its hangers at 100mph = asphalt > steel
Second picture: Tightening a bolt on the suspension slightly too much and shearing it off, and in one fell swoop taking your car off the ****ing road.

You ruin the argument by acknowledging Honda is the daddy

haha what? no-one even mentioned Honda :D They're all econo-boxes now, only the S2000 has half a sniff of being considered :D

£20 and a far too early Sat morning rise and the exhaust is now welded up. The sheared bolt .. er .. well i'm putting someone elses' coilover on until we sort that out ... should be amusing.

I'm sorry, you seem to have attempted to initiate a Bikes Vs. Cars argument, you are automatically disqualified :)

Come on now, what about the Integra Type R? or even the 2.2litre Preludes? :)
200bhp of fun
S2000 Agreed
Bikes > Cars, also agreed

The two problems I have with Hondas are with their engines. They are absolutely bloody fantastic things. Truly marvelous works of engineering. Phenomenally clever. But they are designed and built so specifically that it is really hard to get them to do any more than standard. Also, all the power is up the top of the rev range thanks to the variable timing and lift business.
Depends a lot on your driving style and intentions for the car really.
Gimme a turbo any day. :)

It's true, my engine kicks in about 3500 rpm. Not a problem, just go through the gears using no lower :)

I seemed to have almost ripped my archliners off on the drive home this morning. Clever stuff, now I can't get full lock in the carpark.

Andy,
Have you had some sort of bad karma lightning rod attached to your car recently? :( Is there anything left to go wrong?
I spent Saturday morning fitting an uprated air filter, removing the restrictive resonator box and putting on an HKS dump valve. The route back home involves a number of tunnels, which are rapidly becoming my favourite places. :)

Sounds good - I spent the three hours driving back this morning listening for noises and trying to work out if they were coming from the suspension or loose bolts left on the back parcel shelf ...
On the plus side, the car is becoming a rather nice cornering machine, although a little bit slippery much to the amusement* of an Audi on the M4 slip road.
* amused because he was behind me and not in front. I doubt he would have been smiling if I was coming up behind him and not leaving him behind, judging from the amount of road I was using :(
Actually the guys at the SXOC are pretty convinced it is myself that is the bad karma, and not my car. For example, I managed to pop the slave cylinder piston out of my friends car over the weekend after he took the engine out. Clutch pedal pressed, no clutch to press against = another type of fluid covering my mum's driveway.

I haven't quite managed to achieve that level of devastation in mine yet..
Have no fear Andy, if you keep trying you will get there eventually :)

This resolved nicely - I heard the metallic 'clunk' again as I was leaving the car park ... stopped, moved forward slowly to put wheel on full lock, and there's a loud tinkle. Cue heartstopping moment when I thought the spacer had cracked in two and fallen off..
instead I see this:

my friends 13mm spanner that he failed to retrieve after working on the car last weekend :D

Hard luck on all the bad car shiz, Andy. At least your nuts are tight :p :)
(Ps. Token and worthless girl vote for Toyotas over Datsuns - vested interest etc.)
