So if you ruled the world what 1 thing would you want to abolish?
For me its gotta be those ****ING "baby on board" signs for cars, and all variations such as "kids in car".
Bloody hate 'em, they serve no purpose, its like what so were all supposed to not crash into you 'cos you have kids??
Those signs make me WANT to crash into you!

The puropse of the signs (incase you havent worked it out) is this.. If you have a baby onboard and you have an accident. Someone might pull you from the wreckage and not realise there is a child onboard. You survive your child gets burned to death because you were unconsious and the child was not visible to the rescuer. Of course for the sign to work the sign should only be displayed when you actually HAVE a child on board. I would make it illegal to display "child/baby on board" signs when you clearly DO NOT have one onboard. It is extremely selfish act to display a sign which might cause the death of someone else who could be searching for your child that isnt even in the accident. Grrrr, etc.
Oh, and If I was the ruler of the world I would abolish greed.

It's pretty ****ing obvious what a "baby on board" sign means.
It means "I've got a little kid in this car, and I value their life more than I value yours, so I'm going to drive in a way that will probably annoy you."
I drive completely differently when I've got my kids in the car.
Ryvita

Slightly differant point of view from the person with kids there Zenith. :) An understandably hard to comprehend point of view for those of us without kids, but I'm sure valid.
Did that sentance make sense? Sorry, it's to early.
bigc90210 - If you get rid of religion what are you going to replace it with? The human race is preternaturally prone to believe in things it can't see. (vis-a-vis fairies, dragons, centaurs, djinn, kami, gods, monsters etc.) If you get rid of religion people will end up believing in something else... like scientology. :o Be careful what you wish for!
Personnally, I'd institute a system whereby everybody in the entire world is forced to spend two years (6 months at age 13, six months at age 17 and a year in their twenties) in a random foreign country. Global integration, tolerance and cooperation would be a lot easier if EVERYBODY understood what the rest of the world was like.

I think the last thing I would think of if I was trying to pull someone out of a wreckage is whether they had a baby on board sign or not.

OK perhaps i didnt make myself clear in my drunken haze at 2am.
The main reason i hate those signs so strongly is that the majority of people who use them have no ****ing clue what their purpose is.
Also most drivers ive seen use them are absolutely TERRIBLE drivers.

Probally going to make me sound big headed, but i really do hate the small minded people that are highlighted buy this post, andy i think you're a great guy, but please get some f*cking skills.
Look at the economics of society today, you expect things to come lower and lower prices but you still expect you at least £6 an hour wage. Wal-Mart is a prime example of this, its standard full time wage is below the poverty standard, but who takes these jobs?
Look for example at the cocklers that got killed out in morkham bay (spelling i know) would you go out spend 12 hours or what ever doing that, even if you had no job? answer probally not, it would be you thats leaching of society and go on benifits insead of working for what ever is avaliable
Your plan would collapse the economy and you would be forced to pay real prices
The state itself means there is a shortage of doctors and nurses so we actively recuite over sea's, for those of you that have studie economics will know that wages are linked to availabily, so for skilled specialist jobs where there are limited people that can do it, wages are high (5-8 years ago it market) why do you think GP's are on over £100,000 a year. (forign drs and other people in skills shortages have to get UK qualifications which they can be expensive, and to get a job they need a visa, catch 22 anyone)
Your plan would collapse the NHS
Aging population, not sure if you'd guessed it, but people aren't breading as much as they were and if you look at the socio demographics of it those that are, are the ones with the least ability to do so (Chav's) rather than the proffesional people with the ability to support a family.
Oh and i'm not sure if you new this, but are you actually British, and WTF is that when its at home, just because this countries not been invaded since 1066 (guessing here) doesn't mean your british, hell the monaky is more german than british.

I have no problem with immgrants in general, and indeed. I used to work with plenty when I worked in St Georges Hospital in tooting. I aimed my post at ILLEGAL immgrants, the ones who come over in lorries or however, then as soon as they're caught "ASYLUM, ASYLUM" **** OFF, they haven't applied for asylum properly, just got into the country and as soon as they were caught, they start claiming persecution in their home country when the reality is, they can claim asylum here, work for minimum wage & they're 1000 times better off on that wage than they would be in their own country.
Call me a bigot or w/e but I stand by my point that all illegal immigrants should be binned without being allowed asylum. If they want it, they can apply for it through the proper channels.

I'd get rid of people too incompetant to actually read a post properly and so just jump on the "OMFG RACTIST!" bandwagon every time they see someone mentioning the word immigrant.
Do you REALLY think the NHS employes ILLEGAL immigrants Nivek? Recruiting overseas and employing ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS are two completely different things.
And as for your point of the whole economy collapsing because it would mean a lack of slave labour workers, no it wouldn't. Don't you think there were a massive amount of studies done on the effect on the economy if every job had to meet the minimum wage? Or do you think they just passed the laws on it and thought "ah well, if people can't afford to pay the minimum wage they can always employe the illegals"?
Illegal immigrants have no right being here. We're an island that is struggling supply it's own people (I include the perfectly acceptable legal immigrants in this, the legals cause a huge strain on the resources that are there to help the legals.) at times. Why the hell should we have to be weighed down by illegal immigrants who want an easy ride?

I'm always one to admit when i'm wrong, i miss read andy's post and thought it said all imagrant whopps sorry about that
As a student of politics this is one of the issues that i cant understand why people get so defencive about it (well i can due to nationalistic tendancy's)
I mean seriously, no one can call themselfs British, such a thing does not exist, yes there is the British isles and those that live in them, but you would be nieve to think that it is one racial identity. Hell this country was inhabited by blue painted savages before the romans invaded! (Where did the roman army come from, answer all over Europe)
Picking up on Jugster as i cant call you by your first name, the NHS would not directly employ illegals, but they dont directly employ alot of people anymore for example cleaners and caterers. (Subcontracts FTW ect, profit motive etc)
The Don, do you really think we are the only contry that has a problem with illegal imigrants? and how do you define some one thats legal to be here, only because there life is in danager? Hell the prostitution industry would be in for a hard hit if you got rid of the illegals. I froget the name of the study but i will try and find it that shows how a reputable supermarket was indirectly employing illegals though sub contracting and not asking for details of those that filled overtime. Food prices are becoming cheaper dispite inflation, ever stopped to think why?
and andy, proper channels themselfs need changing, i remember an artical in the independent (newspaper) about how a qualified indian (guessing here) dentist came over illigally but once he got uk credited he would be allowed to stay as for some reason indian dental qualifications aren't sutable. the man had to work for extreamly low wage to save enough money to pay for his UK qualification (still illegal) once he got his uk qualification he got a job and was allowed to stay.
I must admit, the people that should be deported and dont are an issue, but at the end of the day you cant claim benifits unless the state knows about you. and while everyone goes OH NOWS about taxes, the uk has one of the lowest tax rate in Europe (obviously Switzerland and a few others are lower) you compaire tax to america, but look at what you get for your money, a near fully comprehensive health service (cradle to grave etc) watch abit of scrubs for your american equivalent. Some of the scandanavian countries have an extreamly high tax rate that the state even helps pay for religous orgainisations (many different sorts) While i admit that the idea of forigen people comeing and leaching is a sort of scape goat, the reality that i've seen is quite different, the people that i see are the leaches are the {sterotype} chavs that see that society owes them something, and that unless they can get £X an hour they would rather claim benifit makes the system a joke.
meh, oh well, i'm of the opinion that the whole national identity things a bit of a joke distracting people from the real issues. god how many times though history have INSERT (JEWS, Illlegal imagrants, imagrant in general) been blamed for things (remember post ww2 the british government invited people from across the commonwealth over for the post war boom)
useless attention whore celebs - GRRRR!

Id too want to remove illegal immigrants.... i just dont think they should be here illegally and causing stupid problems for the government. Waste of money and afaik they mostly only come here to get a life in dodgy crime and mess about.
I know there are real exceptions where people really are looking for a better life etc but i recon most just come here and get in trouble. I imagine they have no respect for the country and just want evade all laws in place.
I cant see whats so great about being here illegally and being a nobody in the uk and end up getting in serious trouble. After they have done something seriosuly wrong or get caught then they go off on one and cause even more trouble.
Being somewhere illegally is just wrong fullstop.

Of course we're not the only country that has a problem with it, but we have one of the biggest problems with it. There are hardly enough housing to go around as is for example. Luckily though we've had declining levels of asylum applications since 2002 (coincidently when the Seville Summit passed a ruling to modify the Dublin Convention to state that country in which an asylum seeker first steps foot on EU soil is responsible for processing the claim for asylum, and strangely enough after that France was the only country to see a rise in asylum applicaitons, wouldn't have been because before that they were sending them all here would it?)
As for the legal aspect, asylum seekers should be purely down to who are at risk of persecution in their own country. After all, that is what asylum is. Immigrants for all other purposes (such as economic) should apply through the correct channels. It's that simple.
I doubt many people would lose sleep if the prostitution industry died. You do know most of the illegals that are working in it are forced into it. They don't choose it as a career path. They arrive here and have their passports taken off them and get forced into prostitution. If you're claiming that we should turn a blind eye to illegal immigration for the sake of prostituting people out against their will then you have serious issues. There was a "massage parlor" here in Birmingham that was raided recently because it was being used as a brothel, and something like 20 immigrants were found in there (around half illegal). All of them had been tricked into coming to this country to then be forced into prostitution. (Link to story (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_midlands/4296412.stm)) I really can't see what your point with that was, you've just made a great case for why illegal immigration is even bad for the immigrants theirselves.....
I wrote a huge reply to why food prices are getting cheaper, but it'd take the thread even further off topic than it already is, so in short - because costs are constantly getting reduced due to more efficent processes like better management of stock etc.
No doubt some illegals do get jobs with subcontracting, but that doesn't change much. It just means that the money that would be paying them the full minimum wage is going to the person who employs them instead. It doesn't prove the entire economy will collapse if you take away the slave labour.

I agree with Zik...Bono HAS to go...
as for the baby on board signs...you'll understand why they are necessary when u have kids and boy racers decide to act stupid and drive dangerously on the road around you just because you might be driving too slow for them..people tend to drive carefully when they notice the sign and even more carefully when they notice the child seat in the front of the car as they pass you...

Yeah, like the other day, i was behind some person in a flash BMW convertible, normally i would be getting annoyed that he was doing 30 in the 40, but then i noticed the guy had his kid in the car. I just know that i would drive as carefully as possible if i had my own child in the car. The anoying thing about the signs is the Renault espaces you see parked with the signs permanently attached regardless to who's in the car.
Which raises another question. If you see a burning car with a "baby on board" If you go to rescue the baby, which in fact isn't there and you end up getting injured, would you have a case to sue? (and I know the answer is yes because you can sue for anything)
Skillet
1st June 2006, 12:35
Having a "Baby on board" sign doesn't make the owner of that car drive better unless the baby is on board. Even then there are still some complete muppets on the road.
I think some people will drive carefully and some badly regardless of whether or not there is a baby in the car in front

Yes, they have nice cheap clothes for cheapskates like me.
Yes, they do lovely accessories which dont snap stright away.
Yes, they are a very good idea.
But, walking into a Primark is like walking straight into Hell.
You cant make eye contact with anyone. Making eyecontact could mean you lose sight of a bargain! Or bump into someone who you dont have time to talk too.
The shelves and rails are in disarray.....There are members of staff there, in their white shirts, but they always seem to busy having a chat, then actually tidying the shelves....Though understabdably, it could seem like quite a frutiless task....Folding, customer messes up, folding, customer messes up, etc...
You can never bloody find anything! Say you decided you want a blue t-shirt. Just a plain blue t-shirt. You think 'primark will do plain cheap blue t-shirts, nee botha' so in you go. You follow the rules, dont look at anybody, ignore the clothes piled high, and set out to find your plain blue t-shirt.
YOU WONT BE ABLE TO FIND IT!
Cos the thing with Primark is, it seems to be full of fabulous clothes you want when you A:Dont have any money or B: Arent looking for anything in particular..... but if you go in, with the single purpose of buying just one thing, you A:wont be able to find anything near to what you wanted or B: will leave with 18 "bargains" you didnt even know you wanted.
