It depends if you're comfortable opening up your PC or not. It may be that your PCs already have a network port onboard. Take a look on your PC for a port that's slightly bigger than the telephone socket on your modems. If you don't have one and you're happy to install something IN your pc, go to any reputable e-tailer like ebuyer, microdirect etc and get one or two (depending on whether both you and your sister have network ports or not) "10/100 PCI Network Cards", any brand, doesn't matter, go for the cheapo ones, they're about a tenner. If you don't want to open up your PC, get USB ones instead of PCI. Then all you need is one "Cat5 Crossover Cable" of however long between the two PCs. Plug them in, go into the properties for the Network Connections within Windows XP, select TCP/IP Properties, give your PC an IP Address of 192.168.0.1 and hers 192.168.0.2 and give both a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. Leave the rest of the properties, and you should be ready to go!

Here is a link to a USB lan connector, you would need on for each machine if you both dont have the correct socket on the pc

http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/60065

Hope this helps

you will need either a hub and 2 patch leads which will go between the pc's or a crossover cable to go directly between the pcs. They will be RJ45 connecters on the cables, to make sure you get the right ones. If you ever have someone else come over and want to attatch other machines, the patch leads and hub would be the best idea. However if your only going to use the 2 machines then just go for the crossover cable. Your able to get everything from that site.

Nope, you'll need to set those TCP/IP properties like I said. When you plug the network adapters in, the connections will be automatically created.
