Quite a few people are reporting speed issues with the new IP MAX service from BT. Whilst you should expect your download speed to fluctuate on this rate adaptive service, both due to the nature of rate adaption and also contention on the BT infrastructure, there is a point at which BT will do something about it.

During the "training" part of the first 10 days after you connect your router to an IP MAX line, you have a Max Throughput Rate set on BT's systems. This is the maximum you will ever get through the line, regardless of the speed you are syncing with your exchange at. In some cases, this is being set around the 2Mbps mark when it should be higher.

If you are training at 8128 and are getting downloads of <5.5 Mbps using the bt speed checker (not any of the online ones, as the bt speed test account bypasses any BT Central contention, etc.) then BT view that as a fault and will do something.

Important: BT will not accept any faults regarding speed on your line if you are withing the 10 day training period. Please do not email in any speed issues until you have left your router connected for a clear 10 days on the line.

To do a BT speed test, change your router login username to speedtest@speedtest_domain with a blank password and connect. You won't be able to access the net, but you will be able to access the BT Speed test pages on one of the following addresses:

http://217.35.209.142
http://217.32.105.42

You'll then go through the BT speed tester dialogue, enter your number and run the test. Please conduct this test twice, about 20 mins apart. The results are logged so when we raise the fault, BT can view them.

If you see a throughput of less than 66% of your sync speed, e.g. 5.5 Mbps when you are trained at 8.1 Mbps, this is likely a fault we can raise with BT.
Once you have carried out these tests, drop us a mail at support@multiplaydsl.net and we'll elevate the issue.

Hi,

I have emailed you a couple of times, with results of the above tests, but not heard anything back yet about any possible resolution

Cheers

Same here

I did get a mail saying it had been raised with BT, but I'd expected some form of progress update by now :(

Just a quick note, the system will only actually let you try every 30 minutes to do the test.

My tests were done about an hour apart

Unfortunately BT are not the quickest to respond if you can provide us with ticket numbers I'll chase them up.

I did these tests last night, and they were just about above their 60% limits.

Synt at 8120 or something and i was downloading from their system at about 6700 or so. Weird though, I can download much faster than that from the levitation ftp :)

currently I have interleaving turned on, if I turn this off they say this will reduce the speed of my line however can't give me any rough ideas how much this will drop.

Anyone had interleaving turned off? What sort of speeds does it drop by?

It actually LOWERS your ping, i don't think it will slow your line down.

thats what I thought matey, but according to them they will drop the speed of the line to what is 'stable' if interleaving is turned off.

Just wondered how much it trimmed off
