LG and I are moving into our new house soon (huzzah!), and so we will be shutting down the BT line to my parents' house (don't worry it's a secondary one) and plan to get it up and running in the new house shortly afterwards.

Do you still need the 30 days notice, will you need more or less time, are we stopping one arrangement completely and starting a new one or is there a transfer arrangement?

So many questions, but I need to know the MPUK timeframe so that I can minimise downtime and get BT ready to switch off the old and switch on the new line.

You could look to do a simultaneous provide at the new address. This is where the line is installed with ADSL already provisioned. Basically we put the order in for the broadband part, then give you a reference to ring up and quote to BT retail to ensure the orders match in BTs system.

Oooh, fancy, so basically, I get this magic number from you, then I ask BT to cut off my old number and transfer it to the new address I ask them to make it ready for ADSL and give them the magic number, and it all goes live nice and easy?

OK ... I have my new line (they haven't moved my number yet) but as you may notice I have Internet access now.

Could someone check my line speed? The speed check and the router details suggest that I'm on 1Mb.

The router gives the following readings ...

Connection Speed: downstream - 1152 kbps upstream - 288 kbps
Line Attenuation: downstream - 19 db upstream - 6 db
Noise Margin: downstream - 31 db upstream - 30 db
