OK guys the first WoWlan is over with, any suggestions on what we can do to improve it, how you think it went, what you think went wrong etc
more importantly would you go to another one ?
Thanks
Wubster
PS Screenshots and results from the Olympics will be posted later this week

Yeah, the olympics were good fun - certainly worth repeating, though some people (a few, not loads) seemed to lose interest in continuing on Sunday. I think the simpler, quicker, odder things we did were the most successful - the stuff which you'd not normally do, like the begging (though I don't think the residents of Orgrimmar would appreciate us making it too regular an event ;) ), boxing and racing. Fishing was good too, though you kinda do that sort of stuff when levelling, and the 'who can get most levels / get to level 5 the quickest' was, in my opinion, the weakest of the lot. Mainly because it was little different from what you'd want to do when powerlevelling an alt, and hence not something 'special' about WoWLAN.
Other than that, the connection was rock-solid, though the lack of Internet access other than for WoW was a royal pain in the arse. Understandable given the time Wizzo showed up, and it didn't spoil my enjoyment of the weekend, it was just a pain to not be able to catch up with email, and most importantly - get on the Multiplay TS to be able to talk to other guildies in the raid, but not at the event.
All in all, a fun weekend - the most bizarre moment of which was waking up to hear 'I'm Every Woman' blaring out of the racecourse PA system at 9:30am. Then getting up to see 300-odd women running round the track...
The in-game YEHAA! would have been good to try too :D

Don't suppose anyone found a largish burtons jacket. I have this horrible feeling I left mine there.

Not that we saw?
It wasnt in the main room or upstairs as best we could see.
Sounds like it was fun, Olympics were a cool idea :) maybe I'll turn up next time, maybe not, you'll have to wait and see ;)
how about making the olympics open to the folk who are at home, would be more fun?

how about a big NO :P
the olypics are for the LAN, woudlnt be much point in it otherwise would there :)
It really is more about how people are AT the event more than the competition online.
Having 20 of them all in teh same room begigng away shouting at each other as someone manages to score 1 gold is all part of it
shame, the olympics is a really good way of bringing people together to do something online in a game we all enjoy. ok it requires organisation but doesnt have the restrictions of being in the same guild or level cap to do something together. i was put of wow lan as its not on my realm and i didnt see why i should pay more to play with my guild online at a lan where i can do this from home.

And thats exactly what we acheived at WoWlan, we managed to get people that had no character ona realm to create a new one and then take part.
Sorry but running this away from theevent would take away what it was intended to do in the first place
Thanks

I suspect there were a few people who had similar concerns to yours, LotzB, but I didn't go to only play WoW with my guildies. It, as are all LANs in my opinion, just as much about the social side (if not more so), as the gaming.
However, the Olympics were just the right type of event to bypass the obvious obstacles of people being on different factions / realms and at different levels.
I have to agree with Wubster that having non-LANers join would have been a bit odd, as it really was a LAN social event with an in-game component, with people shouting and getting involved, rather than an in-game event which just happened to be being run from a LAN.
And after all, how would you have been able to receive your winnings? ;)
sometimes it not all about winning. its mostly about the competing.. ;)
anyway perhaps i will attend next time.

thats great to hear! :)
i personally still want to see organised raids etc and a definitive choice of realm to level a character up on prior to the event. after all i dont want to spend all weekend just playing with my absent guildmates, i would likve to party (in wow) with the folks at the lan

Al'Akir is where the majority of MPUK folk are, so if you want to level a char there is the place to do it. You will also find plenty of help on there on Pat Sharpe Potato Rodeo and then onward into the end game guilds.
The main other server players are on (mainly teh XW folk) is Neptulon, but they can stay there :D

Some of us will have alliance chars on Al'Akir shortly, so we could judge the "penetration" into Stormwind and apply points accordingly :)

Dont forget ther eare some on Xavius :)
You couldn't run the olympics from home as there would be far too much cheating, we had enough at the event (/me looks at NexuS). IT was great that other people who had no idea what was going on joined in the fun outside Org and some even helped out until the end of the first day.
I do think that the bareknuckle naked boxing was great fun.
Only problem now is that we all have level 5-6 charcters with our guild tabards and we will lose them if we reset for the next one.

It's possible we'll provide events at this level and continue to progress characters at each event so we can go to new areas and thus, new events
