No, Im not posting in the wrong forum, about some movie thats out :P

But, this year AT trialed behind the scenes tours of park (including climbing lift hills and see other "out-of-bounds" areas.

Official AT website can be found here: http://www.alton-towers.co.uk/themepark/behind_scenes.asp

Tower Almanac Review/info here: http://www.towersalmanac.com/index.php?page=news&id=229

So who wants to go on one of these tours then?

I honestly dont see AT announcing these for this season and will most likely be brought out in full next year.

If its anything like the theme park I used to work at, its not as interesting or glamorous as youd think it would be.

No it isnt, ive been for an interview there and "behind the scenes" is not too glamorous except in the management buildings.

Yeh well,

Im interested as im planning a degree in electronic engineering (i.e. Attraction control systems). So any sort of insight into anything "behind-the-scenes" for an attraction will do me (even mechanical stuff) :P

i'd be interested - it doesnt take much imagination to realise what the "behind the scenes" of the rides are etc, but if it's accompanied by a bit of a hike up a hill and some informative explanation of how thigns work and historical info then that'll be worth it.

have sent an e-mail registering my interest

Yeh well,

Im interested as im planning a degree in electronic engineering (i.e. Attraction control systems). So any sort of insight into anything "behind-the-scenes" for an attraction will do me (even mechanical stuff) :PAs this does sound like it could offer that, it unfortuantly would'nt. Seeing anything track side, or remotly near track side requires a ride shutdown, and then subsequent re-testing before it can be operational again. I don't know what they show you, but if your hoping to see all the technical behind the scenes of a specific attraction, don't be surprized when you just see the staff buildings and a lot of rubbish bins :P You may well find they show you something they are building, (which ill admit would be interesting to see) but I doubt itll be anything you can't see on the net.

However with what Elbonio says, if thats what you want to see, or how it can interest you, then go for it.

Thank you for expressing interest in the new Alton Towers Behind the
Scenes Tours package. This is your opportunity to gain a unique and exciting
insight into the inner workings of your favourite theme park. Your day will
begin with exclusive access to the park before the gates open to the general
public, spending time with our technical teams on some of our most popular
rides such as Rita - Queen Of Speed. You will witness some of the daily
procedures that take place before the first guest is even out of bed! The
tour continues with a look behind Hex- The Legend of The Towers, where you
will discover the hidden secrets and magic that combine to make your body
and mind turn inside out. Next up, we venture to the ancient Flag Tower, a
famous monument in the history of Alton Towers, where we will climb over 200
steps high into the sky and see miles of Staffordshire countryside and
parkland below. Once your feet are safely back on the ground it is your
chance to go off and enjoy a day on the theme park, with priority access on
some of our most popular attractions.

As the park closes, your are invited for a buffet meal in the board
room where you can browse over some of historic archive material such as old
maps, art work and photographs. While you are dining, the general public
will head off home, the Monorails will be put to bed and the night-time
shift will begin, we will then get the chance to stay behind in the empty
park and see what happens after hours. Again our expert team will be on hand
to guide you around a handful of our attractions into the night, finally
ending at around 8pm on Towers Street.

Can't wait to get onto the tour? You can book your place for £60,
which includes park entry, free car-parking, time with our technical teams
behind the scenes and buffet lunch. We have three dates in place, but be
aware that paces are limited so ring 0870 458 5140 to book your place now.

The three dates are:

Saturday July 15th
Saturday July 22nd
Saturday August 26th

Please note that every effort will be taken to ensure that all areas
of the tour are covered; however due to operational or technical reasons we
may have to change the tour programme. Due to the nature of this event you
are required to be 16 years old or over and be physically fit. The day
begins at 8am and continues right through until 8PM! What's more - annual
pass holders will get a 10% discount for quoting their annual pass number.s
