I know it wasn't asked for, but I've heard that BT are enabling this as standard on the trial.

Can you guys please check if it's definitely on or off from my line? Trying to play Halo 2 is pointless, keep getting chucked.

Ta,
Steve

All new connections through Multiplay DSL should have interleaving off. If you find that your router is reporting it as on, contact our support and they'll raise it with BT to get it turned off.

The majority of people have migrated with Off as requested. However, one or two have slipped through the net it seems and we only become aware of this when the connection goes live.

As Joolz has said if you think Interleaving has come on your line then please drop us a mail to support@multiplaydsl.net and we will hassle BT to get it sorted out. Usually a modify order to turn interleaving off takes 24 hours from acceptance by BT.

How do you know if interleaving is disabled on your line without looking at your router diagnostics?
What specific "symptoms" show up? Slower speeds than expected?

Higher ping responses, maybe 10ms+ higher than you'd expect between your router and MPUK's core.

It apparently causes high pings but gives more stability. This is usually a good thing, except for gamers. Only reason I noticed is it was reported as 'On' on my router, only tried WoW last night, where pings are generally equal to some randomly generated number, and completly separate to your connection.

Cheers to wizzo for sorting me out so quickly - shame bt take so long after that :).

This is what Nildram have officially sent me when I asked about interleaving, although its not very helpful. Does anyone know what they mean by 'maintain the service if errors occur'? Does it mean if it errors the entire connection drops or does it mean that if it errors I might lose packets / speed.

Cheers.

What is interleaving?
Interleaving is part of DLM and is a method used to maintain stability of the line if errors occur. In short it helps maintain service if your line develops issues. If interleaving is used it will increase your ping round trip time by 20ms-40ms. This is a setting made on the line card profile on the BT ADSL equipment at your local exchange.

This profile can use one of three options:
AUTO: The line will run in "FAST mode" (interleaving off) unless it sees an issue and will opt to Interleave to try and keep the service going. If your line then stabilizes the line card profile it will then switch back to fast mode automatically.
ON: The line will run with interleaving on all the time.
OFF: The line will run permanently in "FAST Mode" and will be unable to apply interleaving to maintain the service if errors should occur.
