View Full Version : Multiplay "IP MAX" Pricing

With the imminent upgrade of numerous exchanges to IP MAX, we can now release our pricing for IP MAX packages.

For those of you wondering what IP MAX is, it is "rate adaptive" ADSL, i.e. your line will train up to the maximum it can support, with a maximum of 8 Mbps downstream and 400 Kbps upstream (800 Kbps on IP MAX Premium). Note that rate adaptive also means that the speed you get out of the line will fluctuate depending on line conditions. For example, in theory you will get better performance in winter when the copper in the road is cold than in the summer (cold = less resistance).

The speed you will get depends on your cable distance from the exchange and the quality of the wire. Only people really close to their exchange will likely get 8Mbps, but many people should benefit from speeds greater than 2 Mbps.

So enough technical here's the pricing:

Multiplay IP MAX:
- static IP as standard
- optimum connectivity straight into the Multiplay racks.
- no download limits (just the usual AUP)
- no proxies
- no traffic shaping
- @multiplaydsl.co.uk email address
- up to 8128* Kbps downstream
- up to 448* Kbps upstream

£33.99 a month (inc. VAT)

Migration from another ISP is free, but a regrade fee of £13 (inc.) applies.
Regrade for existing Multiplay DSL customers will be free when the time comes.
New activation fee of £60 (inc.) if you don't currently have broadband on your BT line.

Multiplay IP MAX Premium:
- as IP MAX but with up to 832* Kbps upstream.

£38.99 a month (inc. VAT).

same deal on migration, activation and regrade as with IP MAX.

Note that you can migrate your existing ADSL connection to us now and then take advantage of our free regrade offer for existing Multiplay DSL customers when your exchange is upgraded, saving you £13! To order, you need to send us the following information:

- The phone number for the BT line you wish to use ADSL on.
- The address to which the line is installed (as it appears on your BT bill)
- Your MAC code from your existing provider if you are migrating (You need to contact your existing ISP to get this)
- Your Multiplay website username
- Your choice of package

Email this to adslbeta@multiplay.co.uk and we'll take it from there. Activation/Migration usually takes around 7 days.

Any questions, ask away :)

* Note these are ATM line speeds, but everyone else seems to be quoting with these figures so we'll do the same. An 8128 Kbps ATM line speed is about 7150 Kbps of IP once you take the overhead off, i.e. approx 9%. Cue bvark correcting me if my figures are off :)

A do-able price... now all I have to do is find out exactly when my exchange is getting done.
Samknows.com says 31/03/06 (tentative) and Amber, meaning that it is probably going to miss the date, but not by a lot.

mine is green, and it says http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/ here that all the work is done on my exchange already

was seriously considering moving to MPUKDSL, but will have to check finances etc first

if I were to move after the 31st, would I go straight onto adslmax??

Wizzo

As soon as your exchange is enabled you will be able to go straight onto IP MAX.

Gah, £33.99 is a good price! I'll be looking for a job and a new place to live soon, here's hoping where ever I end up is IP MAX compatible.

Typical, my exchange in the middle of a town is amber with tentative date, and my girlfriend's exchange in the middle of the countryside is already enabled :(

I'd only get about 4mb though, my line stats are crap.

If you provide exchange names, we can provide ready for service dates for ADSL MAX.

Most exchanges however are either Green for 31/3 (will be ready by this date) or Amber for 31/3 (on track for this date but not guaranteed).

:)

If you train up at 8128Kbps (like me), you will top out about 800k/sec downloading, and let's face it, if you're upgrading to max, that's all you care about.

You will likely train to 8128kbps up to 1.5km from the exchange if your copper plant is reasonable.

Where are you guys looking up these "estimated" speeds from your snr and attenuation?

atm my attenuation is: 38.5 db and SNR is 25.3 db.

if anyone knows how to work out and there isnt a tool for it, do let me know ;p

from Zeniths sstickied post:

http://212.23.23.177/calc.htm

as i was calculating - it all depends on what your line speed is already

= if its 512 - then its about 2meg - 1meg = 4-5meg and if you have 2mb already then you should be able to get 8meg

You can also try the SamKnows website to check what exchange your on and it will then tell you the RFS dates for ADSL MAX enablement: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/phoneno.php :D

You are Green for 31/3 :)

And re: samknows, I have no idea whether that's actually kept up to date or not.

When regrades are available, we'll offer people the option to get their connection regraded to IP MAX free of charge. This is looking to be toward the end of April. You can read more about that in my thread on this subject @ http://forums.multiplay.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39986

Good News, BT have finished enabling this exchange for Max DSL products.
Products will be available from 31/03/06.

If only I was permanently living at home to make it all worthwhile!
