I have enabled the ircbot addon and looked through the modmanger con file to try and determin the connection port for the bot.
# bf_live (http://ircbot.bf-scene) v2.0 for ModManager
#
bf_live.ip "$$ip$$"
bf_live.password "$$admin_passwd$$"
bf_live.port $$port10$$

$$ip$$ = gameserver ip
$$admin_password$$ = rcon admin pass
$$port10$$ = ????????????????

hope u can help.

For the incredibly stupid of us here , once I have the above information filled in , how do i get it to report to the irc channel , is that something I have to do within the channel ?

Yeah , I know , but blame the clan for tasing me with this .

Should the parts look like this in the modmanager.con file

# bf_live (http://ircbot.bf-scene) v2.0 for ModManager
#
bf_live.ip "$$99.999.999.9$$"
bf_live.password "$$pw from the rcon $$"
bf_live.port $$99999$$

subsituting the '9' for the actual numbers

then where do I tell it what channel i want it to report to ?

Dont edit those settings in the config use the "Settings tab" to configure the details. Then use the client to configure your bot.

Got it working in the end , had to download a client to configure it from my side , and also download java and install it to get the client side program to work .

I didn't realise it would be so complicated , and my system likes me to turn off as much as possible before running BF2 , so running something client side might be a problem .

Yep we didnt write this one. Not the method I'd have used, I did start writing a totally server side bot but never finished it, saying that it does seem to work quite well.

I'll give you my last Rolo if you finish yours .

It was just that I had absolutely no experience with this kinda stuff what so ever . And everyone kept saying " go ask Multiplay " , but I had already searched through clanforge , multiplay and these forums and found nothing so I figured it was not native to MPUK .

I was also surprised that more ppl had not been talking about it here on the forums , with the BF2 war scene really taking off , but then figured that maybe most of them know how to do this anyway and it's only old codgers like myself that would have problems .

I've got meself the client (took ages as the homepage is dead :'() and I've got it up and running on irc.

I've added the bf2_bot addon to my unbranded, ranked, bf2 server in clanforge

I can start the bot up... but it cannot connect to the port - stating "connection refused"

The default port for my server is 16967, so I've tried to connect on 16977 to no avail..

I also tried the admin port and query ports too - just incase... but none are working.

any ideas anyone?

Server game port + 10 is what it should be as you say.
