Coca Cola is "meant" Taste like Root-beer with a lot more "Chav" in it.

Yeah I can read the label on the bottle.. but 'vegetable extracts' is extremely vague. I guess it's just one of those things that just tastes unique.
Btw diet coke ftw \o/

Maybe this will answer what is actually in the cola drink.

Coca-Cola was originally supposed to taste of cola nuts. A lot of the taste however is from the carbon dioxide (think of what soda water tastes like) and the sugar.

I`ve found that the taste of Coke depends a lot on the country its created in.
One of our local food vans that delivers to work has a tendancy to get "cheap import" coke rather than local stuff....
We`ve had french, spanish, and even israli coke. THey all have their own subtle different flavor.

Actually the cocaine was a by product of the coca leaves.. they used to use fresh leaves.. but then changed to 'spent' leaves without the cocaine in it. Was doing a bit of reading last night :)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coca-Cola#Urban_Legends_and_unusual_uses
But yeah it was originally marketed for it's 'medicinal' properties... but then changed to a mere 'refreshing drink' :)

Coca-cola was a syrup before a drink
and i have a very old coca-cola sign from a pub dating back to goodness knows when
picked it up for 50p at a Radio Rally :p

hehe yeah, "take this, it'll get rid of headaches and toothache, never mind the fact that it will leave you with the shakes and withdrawl symptoms" :p

I heard somewhere that coke was make with vegetable extracts and pepsi fruit extract. Can'ts find any evidence of this though.
OpenCola is a strange idea. GPL cola drink.

Coca-Cola = Diet Coke with as much sugar as you can physically find in the country you are living. Thats the easiest way of describing coke.
I've heard the rumours of coke being able to disolve teeth if left submersed overnight, and things like that, but never tried it. (I can't hold coke in my mouth for that long)

Also tried on Mythbusters. They did an entire episode on coke myths.
It is capable of cleaning chrome, for example :)

Yeah, the shop in MK is in the shopping centre, I tend to buy MD when I go to Collectormania :p
And I always wondered what flavour coke was meant to be, given that you get coke flavoured things (lollies etc)

Wow I need to get out more :|
Never seen anything more potent than the almighty redbull (of which I asked someone the same question about last week :p: )
Adding onto the 'CO2 adds to the taste' comment from earlier... flat coke tastes very differnt to fizzy coke (imo)
King-Kodiak
6th February 2006, 14:09
Indeed, flat coke tastes very different to fizzy coke.
As well as coke cleaning chrome, getting any kind of stains off floors is apparently best done with tesco value lemonade :S (and cheap baby wipes, marie tells me)

I suppose its the bubbly-goodness that a fair few dishwasher ad's have claimed are the secret
Elbonio
6th February 2006, 14:46
also coke from a glass bottle tastes better than coke from a plastic one
the CO2 reacts with plastic much more readily, thus fizzing more and you taste more CO2 than you do flavour
Drink it from a glass bottle however and it doesn't react, thus preserving the cokey goodness.
Hence whenever you go to a kids party and are served coca-cola in a tiny plastic cup, it's noticeably fizzier
Rhi

swyft and i have *always* maintained that coke should be drank out of a glass bottle!! it does taste so much nicer..

Coke contains meta-phosphoric acid, and is pH3, hence its mirculous cleaning powers.

You go to them often then...? :P
But yes, I've always said it tastes better from a glass bottle.
You can taste the difference CO2 makes by tasting fizzy water (yech) in comparison with the nice still stuff.

and phosphoric acid is lethal if you boil it

I think you'll find the fizzyness is due to imperfections in the platic cup (which are also generally ridged for grip) as plastic has a much less smooth surface than glass (as a rule).
On another note, I have a set of Pepsi glasses with the logo etched into the bottom, after you let the coke settle the line of bubbles off it makes a logo on the surface :)

subtle? i cant STAND foreign coke... i drink close to 2 litres a day (i realise it will kill me) so maybe i'm just more sensitive to the taste... i love english coke but whenever i get it from certain places (generally ones run by families from other countries)...

Coke is a brand of cola.
Cola is the type of drink (eg pepsi cola, coke-cola, virgin cola).

There is always something quite rewarding about a nice cool pint of coke, no ice in the morning, or after a night of drinking when you get home.
But if i'm going to a restaurant or something, it is always lemonade :)

On one of our more boring days at work the chef and I tried a little experiment with 3 really mucky 2ps and 3 small containers - one each with a drop of coke, cilit bang and oven cleaner in....
the coke clearly won and made the shiniest 2p....makes you wonder what you're drinking...
I have to limit my coke habit these days as once upon at time i was drinking 4 litres a day...
