I'm getting synced at 5152/448, up from ~4500 earlier tonight.

However, the most I can download, and I have checked numerous sources, is the same as my old 1Mbps line from Freedom2Surf.

The browsing is whizzier, but the downloading is capped at around 125KBps.

Tried again this morning, still capping out at 120KBps :(

Have you checked the obvious, like a piece of software limiting your speed.

The other thing to try to test that is, try 2 files, they both should go at 120k/sec.

Nope, no such software, trying from numerous PCs.

(I do know the basics, I do support on a few unofficial support forums heehee)

If I download multiple files simultaneously, the total speed is still only ~120KBps

Well then, you'll need to talk to support.

Try popping into #mpukhosting on quakenet.

Yep, I have, and they asked me to post in here, so any problems are collated

Lucifa: He's on the Higher Speed ADSL trial.

Under normal circumstances BT would only accept an order for 1Mb for his line, but this is the BT trial for higher speeds (of up to 8Mb).

Nobody knows what performance will be like - these are the first of these connections (via BT) in the country. :)

Ya I know, just thought I'd try and help until someone official could come along.

tbl embrace the pain, we are special... we need to get some t-shirts printed or something... perhaps a badge.

Or maybe free broadband ;)

lol I wish... na its a trial service... to be honest I was expecting stuff like this... but I do think that everyone who eventually does get ADSL max owes us a pint at the lan after they get it installed... simply for the pain we are going through on their behalf...

I've been doing some reading on other peoples experiences with the MAX DSL trial and it seems that the speed increase happens slowly for a lot of people as it 'learns' the max stable rates for your line.

Check out this thread here (http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=btsupplier&Number=2247440&page=0&view=expanded&sb=5&o=0&fpart=).

Let us know what happens. :)

And for everyone else waiting for the higher speeds, we received a document today with a list of every ADSL enabled exchange and initial dates for MAX upgrades. Almost all of them are (on this revision of the document) showing as Red, which means "We will be upgrading this exchange, but the available date shown here may change". These all show a date of 31/3/2006. Draw your own conclusions from this. There are also a handful of Amber exchanges, which have their own dates which are more likely to be accurate. :)

The thread seems to concur with what I say. VP contention won't show speed issues in the same way I am seeing.

I am seeing a distinct 'throttling' effect to 1Mbps even though I am syncing at 5Mbps.

My upload speed is indeed faster, and is close to 0.4Mbps.

I'm not sure if this throttling is done at BT or not, but I'm hoping you guys can possibly raise the question.

I didn't expect to see 5Mbps 24/7, as the trial clearly states that during peak times the line could perform at the same rate as it would handle on BT 'original' IPStream. However I cannot get a speed of above 1Mbps from my line at all :(

Another ADSLg result:

True Speed (estimated)
Downstream 950 Kbps (118.8 KB/sec) 1026 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 387 Kbps (48.4 KB/sec) 417 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Ill be changing to mpdsl soon, and my line can only handle 1mb

but wouldnt mind "MAX" when it arrives at SLADK (I think thats the right exchange name)

Is there an easy way to find out a date for this exchange (thats updated)/when this exchange gets the upgrade?

Adwick Le Street (SLADK)

ADSL Max Enable Date - 31 Mar 2006 (Tentative)

But then most exchanges in the country say 31st March. If it's true, then WHEE!

ADSL Max enable date: 31 Mar 2006 (Tentative)

Isn't www.samknows.com great? :)

With no promises, it probably is. We have a full list of exchanges from BT, with all the 31st March ones being 'Red' (most of the total list). There are some other Yellow or Green ones, with their dates set before the 31st of March.

31st of March is a general date and they make no promises for the Red exchanges, but all the ones they've changed the dates on they've brought the date forward on as opposed to pushing any back. (Except the Black ones they are never gonna do, but there's not many of those). :)

Black ones are mostly scottish ones arent they?

<-- me notices his user class and does not like the CS Script Kiddie terminology

Yeah, the Strathclyde area (which doesn't even exist anymore, and hasn't for 12 years!) is one of the main test areas for IPStream MAX

Can I get a quick desc of what adsl max is, and how / what do I need to do to get on it?:)
