Next step is to do a network test, steps are details below.

Download WinMTR - http://winmtr.sourceforge.net/winmtr_bin.zip
Set the host as your server's IP address, continue to play with this running the in background for at least 20minutes. [b]While the problem persists[b]
Then post the text results here in a preformatted tag.

Other things to check are spyware, malware and viruses.

And close any extra applications that may be using the network.

I have downloaded and run WinMTR.

Please find below my results whilst pinging the server:

I apologise for the way it looks, it didn't copy & paste correctly from the program.

I hope you can make sense of it..

It looks like it's the hop from fa4-13.xpe-999.as35028.net that's the problem.

Please could you take a look and tell me your thoughts.

Thanks in advance

im with telewest blueyonder and have been calling them many many timnes now about there network.

Dont take there crap of (you have spyware, Its your router, you have a virus or its your fault our network is fine.) latley i cant play any game server at all no matter what game... since the BY 10mb upgrade my connection is getting worse and worse. i used to ping 10-20 to mpuk servers now i avrage 200~ with like 50% packet loss..

the only one guy i spoke to who actually sounded like he understood my problem ran some tests and got in contact with a network admin. He confirmed that the by network in my area was 90% Overused... the ubr had its upstream completely maxed out and couldent cope... nocking me offline nearly everyday and huge ping dicconections etc in game :(

i sent of my winmtr results to mpuk and the confirmed that the UBR in my area is the probelm... i dont know what to do next :(

It doesn't highlight a big issue tbh the 0.25% packet loss could very easily be the de-prioritisation of ICMP traffic. The biggest indicators are jumps in the average more than anything else. Two things though:

1) What IP were you pinging?
2) If you could repeat the test during peak gaming time when networks will be much busier than now would probably show an issue much clearer.

Hello again.

Thanks once again for your time.

The IP that I am pinging is the UKC Medal Of Honor Breakthrough Liberation server, hosted by Multiplay UK.

IP address: 85.236.100.128. (No port number was used whilse running WinMTR, though it is 12203 if you need it for any testing)

The problem does appear to be on or after jump 7. It get's no response. Am I correct in assuming this is the cause of my problem?

If so, is this most likely to be caused by my ISP?

I will run WinMTR at peak gaming/bandwidth useage tonight, and post results again.

I have run antivirus & malware scans. Nothing dodgy at all.

The fact you're not receiving the reply from the server is "interesting".

Hi,

I've just tried pinging the machine myself from a completely different network, and it responded fine.

Can you try doing an MTR to www.multiplay.co.uk, or 85.236.96.4?

If you still get no response, let us know, we'll try and find a node which responds. This could be a result of your firewall at home... Can you make sure the settings have been lowered slightly, to allow the responses to flow. :)

Hope this helps! :)
