View Full Version : Alton Towers 2006

Well, I'm only a few days earlier than last years start off thread!
Its that time again, to begin thinking about our annual trip to Alton Towers. For those of you "not in the know", every September for the last 3 years, more and more of us have imposed ourselves upon Alton Towers for 3 days/2 nights and enjoyed great rides, good food and the very nice outdoor jacuzzi!
So, to start the ball rolling, which dates out of the above do you fancy this time?
Post thoughts / feelings / love / hate etc here! (And no, don't book any time off work yet!)

What kind of cost are we looking at? I've heard much about this legendary trip, and would love to go, and hopefully bring my good lady with me.
Any details on this yet?

a) I wonder what state the hotel will be in this year round. Maybe some more wall will crumble ?
b) How many of the poolguards will eye the MPUK Hot Tub invasion with worry ?
c) How long will MPUK be able to stay in the bar before one of the staff loses their humour to the pixies ?
d) Will I manage to get up early enough to make the early-entry into the park ?

If you shared a 6 person room, for 2 nights and 2 days in the park (inc free breakfast and water park entry) it was £88.50 per person last year

LG and I would love to come, but due to me working in a school (time off during term time especially at the beginning of term is frowned upon - although I may swing it) and LG working in a hospital (can only make two request for alterations to her rota this would require three or take it as annual leave (a precious commodity). So we'll see what we can do, from my point of view the first date is easiest, but I can appreciate why others wouldn't want to do that and I agree totally about the need to avoid the kids, but since I work on the same holidays as them it works for me.
We'll see.

Prices for this year are not out until Feb
andyf
20th January 2006, 09:23
Once the prices are out, and discounts announced, put the info up here so we can all get the same, correct deal.
It was a bit patchy last year as the hotel were giving different people different prices.
WhiteKnight
20th January 2006, 11:09
It depends when you book, and how many you have in a room.
Also if you have any hax discount codes.
I think you have to book before march to get the early booking hax.

There is a food hut in the medievil part that serves Halal food, some of it might be suitable (vegeterian at least), unfortunately their website is rubbish and doesn't tell you.

Your girlfriend may have difficulty with the 'all you can eat buffet' especially at £20 a head (I kid you not!!!). The garden restaurant however states on the bottom of the menu, something like If you don't like what's here talk to us. I did got a mushroom omlette made especially for me, came with garlic bread and salad (did even have to ask for it) and it was cheaper than the normal meals :) Obvisouly if you're going to request something very specific you might have to do it in advance, but I just ordered something I thought they couldn't refuse.

A small group of us ate out at a local pub one eve.. which i'm sure would be able to sort something. Failing that there's a tescos in Uttoxeter (short drive). However i'm sure shes used to being short on options.. vegetarian is one thing, fairly simple to cater for.. vegan on the other hand is just wtf... (imo yada yada)

after not making thorpe park or alton tower this year i really want to come along this time.
can someone explain how the rooms works? I assume no one can afford a room on their own? and that single rooms dont exist. Is it a case of being in the know and getting an invite into someone elses room? Or pestering each room organiser until someone invites you? TBH i dont know that many people on here that well outside of the forum and i never really get people come up to me at i-series event? i can understand that some folk might be apprehensive to share rooms with complete strangers known only thru a forum.

Great!
can someone explain how the rooms works?
The rooms sleep up to 6 people, in two double beds and two singles (bunks). Yes it can mean that you end up sharing a double with someone you dont know, but its only a place to sleep. (and you should be far to drunk to care).
I assume no one can afford a room on their own? and that single rooms dont exist.
They do exist, they cost the earth. If you can afford it and really want a place of your own we're not stopping you booking it. Rooms cost £600ish for the 2 nights, if you rich enough :)

Get yourself known, its easy, come to thorpe park April 1st (see other thread), you can always bring along a friend. Attend lan parties, dont expect people to walk up to you directly (there are over 1000 people at I Series, how do we know who you are?) , get involved. Chat to the staff at lan parties, join in the footy, join in the drinking games (if you drink). Do DDR, singstar, etc. You'll soon get known, and if your not a total idiot (I guess not) people you will hopefully find a space in a room. Obviously make it clear you want to go to Alton Towers :).. If you say your going, pay the money when requested by the room organiser (nothing like someone who doesn't pay to put people off in the future!).

I'm not going this year because there are no new thrill rides. Rita was fun last year but nowhere near as good as the vertical equivalents I've been on in other parks. Maybe next year.
Actually, I'd be interested to know if they've listened to my suggestion yet. I make the same complaint to reception every time we go! They know that the room we booked will be used by 6 male adults. So why do they only put out 2 adult and 2 children sized towels in the room every morning? A printout telling housekeeping how many towels for each room surely isn't that difficult for a large business?
