Well after some discussion in IRC we think we should decide now on our location for the 07 Ski trip.

I'm putting my vote as Tahoe.

Could Canada also be considered? :D I've heard good things about Banff.

Banff is wicked - choice of 3 different resorts every day effectively, but you need to get a bus to each of them - i don't remember there being any 'on piste' accomodation.
Night life and restaurants in Banff are also good :)

I'd like to put my vote down for Europe somewhere (perhaps Luxurious Austrian place?), failing that somewhere with ski in/ski out is infinitely preferable.

INFINITELY.

I've been to Tahoe and Banff and I have to say they are both truly superb on ski-ing and 'fairly' good on nightlife. Tahoe has the edge on nightlife really as you can cross the border in to Navada ( by walking accross the traffic lights in town) and go to the casinos for a laugh and a super cheap large steak meal .

Also if you play blackjack you get free drinks all night and being sensible you can come out even stevens cash wize and rather well oiled . Avoid taking thr missus though since she is guaranteed to put anyhting you win on the table straight in to the slot machines !!!!!! women huh :)

The other thing is we skied one day in minus 42 in Banff and it wasnt the wind chill . One lift actually froze I kid you not. This is something to bare in mind and if you do go to Banff spring ski-ing may be best. Goats eye mountain has s e superb black runs which were only 'just' within my capabilities ( which arent much)

I loved both but out of the two I would recommend Tahoe but I'd also say Banff is superb.

We're off to the Morzine area in just over a week mainly to look at property and have decided baby or not stuff being ex ski-ers he'll just have to dress up warm , the ski-ing may not match some places but the atmos and the villages are different class. .....................

I'll manage to squeeze in the odd day or two of ski-ing of course

Well, as mentioned I'd vote to stay in Europe for our ski trip so as to avoid the extra travel time, holidays, tiredness/cramps etc. of going to the far side of the world.

However, if we do end up going there, I have a friend who skis every year in the US or Canada, and his group do it for cheaper than what we pay to go to Europe most of our holidays.

They decide on dates, book holidays etc then wait until two weeks beforehand, at which point they raid all the last minute deals, vote on it and go. They've done it for £400 all inclusive before, and don't tend to spend much more than that usually.
Skiworld are one of their favourites, and those are the guys that did us what was in my opinion the best holiday we've had yet - Les Deux Alpes.

Am interested in this, been wating to go ski-ing / snowboarding for years.

How much does this normally cost per person, looking at the previous post £400 all in, does that include flights, hire of equipment, lessons or anything?

Sorry if its such a noob question :)

I budget around £900 per holiday (one week) for skiing or boarding including flights, accomodation, food, entertainment, rental, ski lift pass and miscellaneous.

This does not include a budget for equipment, you will likely need a few hundred quid up front for clothing, accessories etc. If you want lessons, start looking at $$$ more as they are quite expensive.

Im deffinatly interested but if the cost is just too much than i won't be able to comit.

I can recommend Whistler and Breckenridge, Whistler being the only resort I've been to twice. Direct flights are a must though as it turns into a trek otherwise. Breckenridge is not so good for people with Asthma though as the village base is so high.

Is this only open to staff though as I could be interested if not ?

The annual ski trip is not restricted just to staff, but anyone new would require several "old boys" to vouch for them, and for no-one to black ball them...

Further, I'll be unlikely to make this if we head for America due to travel times and expense. I've been promising some friends I'd organise a ski trip to Europe for a couple years, and would probably take that opportunity instead.

I'd suggest you still do a ski trip to Europe each year and make the US trip something separate. I for one plan to go more than once a year from now on :)

Indeed from a cost/effort perspective I'd much rather go to Europe...

how much more would a US trip cost roughly?

I spent around £900-1000 on the Hol just gone. I want to geta rough idea of how much more I'd need. ~£400-500?

Zakalwe

Depends on where you're staying and how long it'll be.

Flying will be c. £500, car hire will be c. £500 but split between users (I think these things change), food THERE is cheap (it should be c. $1.9/£1 or higher then) so one option is to go uncatered which also saves cash. Putting a further £500 in for staying and drink gets to £1500.

So, if it's 2 weeks it should cost no more than £1500 and if it's 1 week your stupid as there's a c. 8-10 hour time difference which takes a few days to properly work in.

Also remember under 21s aren't allowed to drink there :) heheheheh

That's if it's USA.. certain provinces of Canada have an 18/19 drinking age.. although others are 21 ;)

Europe gets my vote for simplicity.. although I suspect my attendance will be heavily influenced by the uni situation :(

Breckenridge was nice this year but unless its 2 weeks count me out for USA / Canada is just not worth it.

Food is no where near as cheap as you would think as they still have the "captive market". You'll also want to look at Premium Economy as a min for such a flight unless you like arriving feeling like **** or your a short arse like Helen :D

Haha yeh they'll have to try harder than using 'extra leg room' as a reason for why I should upgrade ;)

Hi all,

I don't want to rush into this as i am see a New person to this community as such, Spoke to her0n and Aardvark and afew others about me coming to the Ski Trip. Now i know you all have a talk and so on but if it is a no for this trip then that is fine :). I am not a Pro i been skiing 4 times and very much enjoyed it, I have not been for 2 years at the moment so will need maybe some time to myself to go and make a fool of myself in the back somewhere or if Ski School is on i go with others if they go on that. So again let me know and again if it is a no then let that be as i know alot of you go and their is not much room :).

TBH if we go to Europe next year, there will be Old Boys Hax used as much as needed.

We had 21 this year, and 19 the previous year, we are getting near to the possible limits of a chalet now.

Anymore than 24 and we'll have to start a chalet 2 as well.

Of course if its USA then its a bit different, probably less people involved with that one.

We'll let all prospective newcomers know.

nope :]

i earn £75 a week but have no bills to pay or anything... i also get another £80 every other sunday during summer, so right now its brining my monies up to £115 a week... and my boss keeps asking me to do extra shifts, so the 75 keeps being bumped up too...

i dont have or earn much... but i can put everything i earn towards fun things really :)

Just adding my 2 cents...

i been all over... europe cheaper no doupt..

I spend 3 weeks in tahoe and spent 3k

The lift passes are about twice the price of europe becuase they dont offer much of a discount for going for 7, or 14 days compared to 1 day.
And the drinks/food costs more than europe believe it or not... and not really to my liking (fried food is nice for a couple of days, but after 3 weeks i was dying of heart burn)

Gifted
14th July 2006, 15:22
....

but the snow was excellent
However the resorts are ALLOT smaller than europe.. and not very high on the difficulty level

Salt lake city for example... took me a morning to ski!
