our clan has just got its second Multiplay server and i'm having problems with my ping . It starts off fine at around 12 - 15 but then wildly jumps up and down to 400 then bak to normal , this is making gameplay impossible and i get bounced . This has only ever happened on our 2 multiplay servers running BF2 , i play plenty of other online games with no effects at all . My isp is Blueyonder and the speed is 4 mb/s , ive shut down all non essential background programs , basic setup is AMD64 3200 , X800XT PE , 1GB Ram , 160GB Sata .
any help would be appreciated

ive had this, Blueyonder have just upgraded your conn to 10mb i suspect, and now the servers at your local blueyonder house are falling on thier arse with all the new bandwidth usage - happened to my flat for about a month before blueyonder pulled out thier fingers and (sort of) sorted it.

<LimiBot> FAQ #11: I'm getting lag/packetloss to my server, what do I do?
<LimiBot> Download WinMTR - http://winmtr.sourceforge.net/winmtr_bin.zip
<LimiBot> Set the host as your server's IP address, continue to play with this running the in background for at least 20minutes.
<LimiBot> Then e-mail us at clanservers@multiplay.co.uk with the results. We will aim to have your request processed on the next working day.

so its not just me!!!
im having the exact same problem... playing bf2... about 20 ping then all of sudden spikes to 400-500 for about 10 seconds... and it does this quite often...
looks like i need to call blueyonder then.. ever since the 10mbit upgrade i have noticed the performace dropping... :(
btw it only does this with multiplay servers.. whats that mean?

That its a problem somewhere along the line between you and multiplay, Blueyonder and a whole load of other crap being in the middle.
Hence the WinMTR.

No problems there. N.B. Edited to add code tags to make it line up properly :)
Try running the test while playing.

been on the phone to blueyonder seems there is a small problem which is barely noticable to most people , except gamers , which is causing a spike in the connection in my area . they are looking into fixing it
