Butlins have released the following press release regarding their 2006 Computer Gaming Championships event.

Butlins, London 20/12/2005, As you are all no doubt aware we have all been working very hard to put this event together, unfortunately though we have been very disappointed with the very low level of sign ups.
At this time the amount of sign ups does not justify running the event and so we have taken the decision to postpone it until later in the year. The proposed date is 30th of June at which time the resort will be fully open and all facilities will be available including all swimming pools, karts, amusements and other attractions and shows.......We will keep you updated.
If you have booked to attend then you do not need to worry as refunds are guaranteed if required, and you will all be contacted by Butlins ticket department shortly.
To show our gratitude to those of you that have taken the time to book you will also be sent a 1 year free Butlins pass for four people worth around £120.
We would like to stress that the event has been postponed, not cancelled.
If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us on 01243 870994.
If there are any updates made they can be found on the official BCGC website.

I really hope they dont lose faith in the idea of it.
The timing was less than ideal, but I think the idea of a LAN with Butlins facilities is brilliant.

Shame, as someone mentioned, the facilities are a cool idea. At least I might be able to attend in the summer (couldn't do the new years dates).

I sure someone tried similar to this about a year ago and that went the same way and got cancelled aswell just before the event.
As for timing yeah i know this there quietest time if the year but i sure they could have had it at a more reasonable date around marcg before they get busy for the summer season.

Bad timing, and bad location (Not exactly the most accessible part of the UK by any means.)

im there.
tbh. i LOVE summer lans. right from the first lan event i attended in the summer.
a Shirt or Tshirt, Shorts and a cold drink. some casual lanning. plus Excessive ammounts of just chilling. beit on the grass. on a bench. or round a bar. its great :D

The locations needs to be seriously looked at, to be honest. Combine a summer dat with a Midlands-ish location for both north and south access and they'll be onto a winner.
I (and I'm sure plenty of others) can't justify travelling for 5 hours.
Are they considering any other Butlins resorts?

thats unfortunate... often enough when launching something new theres gotta be a certain amount of support and faith that the event will run.
i had my doubts from a while back. I think that the time of year wasnt ideal. The location was great as it offered good facilities. however i cant see it happening in the summer as holiday bookings have gotta be more profitable than lans..
waiting to see.

as well as bad loc etc, its just.. the majority of people dont even sign up for i series until like, 2 weeks before anyway... so that would mean christmas, when everyones busy. no chance.
