hiya

am I being stupid or am I doing something wrong?
i've got a little LAN at home and i *used* to use internet connection sharing FINE (until i7 grrrrrrrrr) but now when i've re-enabled it, i don't get an IP address assigned when i dial up - it does the handshaking and connects, but winipcfg says 0.0.0.0 for the ppp adapter address. when i uninstall ICS, DUN works correctly. I've reinstalled all the networking components and I can't find an answer on http://support.microsoft.com

win98se host machine,
USR sportster connectiong to lineone on surftime.

heeeeelp!!!! anyone!! pleease!

OK
Don't worry - there *should* be THREE network adaptors..
Ethernet Card (Home)
PPP Adaptor (I'm coming back to it soom)
ICS Adaptor (Internet)

ICS tells DUN to use the ICS adaptor for IP assigment instead of the normal PPP adaptor for the internet. Can you actually use the internet? If so then don't worry, if not, then right click on Network Properties, Add Adaptor - Microsoft, ICS adaptor, and THEN re-install ICS thru the Control Panel - Add/Remove Proggies...

Hope that helps - if you need a hand then ICQ me below..

got this resolved at last... ICS was so much of a headache i've slacked it off. i would have to reconfigure my network every time my mates brought their pc's round. found an excellent program called NetProxy which has a simple control panel where you can turn on and off a http proxy, ftp proxy, socks server, DNS server, DHCP server among others. piece of p*ss, and it's dead simple to turn on and off (perfect for when you don't want your mum to f*ck up your CS game when she tries to go shopping on tesco.net or whatever!) :D

Which is great as you can simply turn it off before coming to a LAN Party };-):
