This is what Christmas is all about, the giving of small present to kiddies, which although look new are really old presents in a new package..

I think its just pretty shiny textures/lighting.
Halflife2: Lost coast was made to show this off i think.

HDR = High Dynamic Range lighting
a rendering effect to simulate a blinding light which "bleeds" into its surroundings, tbh true HDR cant be done due to the limitations of current monitors, nearly all monitors have a limited contrast range (typically anywhere from 300-1000:1), and do'nt support floating point constrast values.
to do true HDR you need a monitor capable of displaying a contrast ratio of around 30,000:1, there are a few companies working on them atm but its too expensive to cram into a 17/19"+ tft.

The thing with HDR on DOD:s is most of the community turned it off, to gain more fps.
The community seems to be stuck in the old "100fps is l337" and looking good is just eye candy.
Adding it to one CS:s map, will probably result in noob's versus noob bashers.
Where Noob's will go around the map trying to find all the nice looking HDR effects, whilst the noob bashers run at 80fps on minimum settings.
Killing the noobs but everything will look like lego star wars..
