yep, killed by a FN2000 while testing out my new SA80. although i've heard that all the unlocks are not so much better than base weapons, but just have different strengths and weaknesses, but what do i know....
seems like a very underhand tactic by EA to make people get the expansion to keep level with everyone

So just to get this totally right... Weapons from a game addon that I have not bought can be used against me ? Is that what that last patch was for ?

that and killing the frames per second ingame.
prior to patch i used 6800gt most settings set to low and achieved a healthy 70-80 fps.
after the patch...no settings changed i get around 40 fps as inf, dropping to under 10 in confined areas with arty/inf around.
EA have done it again.
(need to try the new forceware drivers...but im not holding my breath)

Boycott time, i can only take so much from a games manufacturer, and EA games clearly suck cock.

it is weird, everyone's just used to an addon being separate from the base game like a mod, because you usually associate an addon to have extra content you have to have to addon to use it and have it used against you.
OTOH, if it was a mod style expansion like RTR and SW from 42, i'd be less inclined to buy it as it's a subset of all people who have the base game that can play it, which means less players. even though this barrier is gone, i'm probably not going to buy it because EA/Dice canada are making retarded decisions.

An American Player Came On The Clans BF2 Server With The SF Guns So They Do Work On BF2 Server
He Let Me Uses The FN2000, Its Ok And U Get Flash Bangs.
Used The Spec Ops Gun But Its Only As Good As The M4 So I'm Staying With The G36C.
Oh And Novalogic Did The Same With BHD With The Add-On

IMO that's one less reason to buy the expansion as well. if you paid for the expansion, you don't want people who haven't playing the new weapons (i know there's other things like the new maps). it could be interesting developing stealth ninja assassin skills and nicking the SF weapon packs off people you identify with them, similar to the base unlocks

First off no weapons are superior to the old. As said above they have differenet strengths/weakness.
Only thing that annoys is the Flash Bangs
Anyhoo, only 6 hours to go till i can use them \o/

I dont have to much problem with the new guns, it's the new equipment that pisses me off. Assaulters and ATs with the addon installed gain access to places on the map that were never meant to be availible to any players. Just think of the highest house on Strike at Karkand, from up there there is no fog at all and you can see the entire map, is that really a good idea? ..... EA and DICE really did it this time...

You ARE kidding right? SF people can access parts of the map vanilla BF2 players cant and are able to shoot others from there?

I think you need to unlock the weapons in SF first. I'm not entierly sure how the equipment works. I've been killed by a F2000 twice but that doesn't matter much. F2000 or AK101, same **** :)

Just to clear things up, your can not use the grapping hook or zip line in vanilla BF2 although as you all know you can use the weapon unlocks.
I think you get flashbangs too...

I'm sure if you had a real flashbang go off in your face, then it would last for a damn long time.

I was in a nightclub when one went off, people in the immediate vicinity couldn't hear properly for nearly an hour afterwards and were completely deaf for over ten minutes, the flash effect lasted a good forty five seconds, longer if you were looking directly at it, the mild concussive effect for those people immediately next to it cause some to become nauseous. Flashbangs are deeply unpleasant to be around and the effects last much longer than the game indicates, be grateful that it isn't a realistic rendition of it or they would have to have someone hitting you over the back of the head with a large rubber mallet every time one went off and you'd need a sick bucket next to your PC.

Well I have just unlocked the fn2000 and flash bang, I have special forces but I didnt unlock it there.
I unlocked it through Vanilla BF2.
For some reason sf is really laggy for me, yet vanilla is fine ( most of the time )

rather annoyingly when u get unlocks in SF for new weapons be very carefull the system allows you to waste your unlock on a weapon u have already unlocked... well done EA. i witnessed this last night...

It's not often i hear a good word about EA or dice! i think this whole thread sums it up! i decided to stop playing bf2 shortly after i pre-ordered the SF pack. Anyhow i play it every now and then but i tell you when i load up fear and see NOOO lag i'm so much happier!

10th December 2005, 01:33
Well I didnt play bf2 either ( because of the lag ) until the latest patch came out.
Now I hardly have any and in the last few days I have gone from a private to a corporal and have bought a server for my clan.
The lag on SF is bad for me but vanilla bf2 is fine for me now ( and I dont have a fab machine ;-)
So credit where credit`s due.

Well i just played BF2 vanilla again and i cannot select SF weapons even though their avtar shows as alternative weapons choices. When i choose the sf guns they just show up as standard weapons so i guess it must be a bug shock horror!
It was fun playing again but i can tell you there is still lag although slightly less that the old patch and i've got a fairly decent sysyem. And for all i know the slightly less use due to switching from onboard sound to X-Fi thus freeing up that extra cpu which i doubt.

very strange but then thats custom components for you i suppose. That said even i've seen that running any modern game on the highest settings with a 6800 ultra is looking for trouble! and esp. BF2 with it's large scale mapping and draw distances!
ISP issue, i don't think so! moved since i've been playing from one bad (BULLDOG) to one good (PLUSNET) and still the same problems!
Anyhow sod it! when i get that £3000 from my ahem* neck and back injury i suffered in a car accident expect to see my nice new fx 57, sli 7800 512's up and runnning and pishing on anyting else! well hows she going to know?!?!? after all it's just a box to her! :D

It's cause people are to gfx-horny to lower their graphix. BF2 will run perfectly fine, if you just lower you settings a tad.

Adding onto the complaining about drops in performance...
Pre-SF (the patch anyways, I havent got the addon) I could play BF2 fine at middle tier settings, a reasonable FPS, no performance lag etc etc...
But since the patch, it's become almost unplayable. So much so that I can't drive anything out of fear of ending up appearing off a cliff or crashing a chopper into a building everytime the game decides it wants to lag.
Nothing on my rig has changed, nor my net connection. This has also happened to a pal of mine (with a better PC too)...
Any suggestions how to make it playable again?
doeboy
10th December 2005, 12:05
Thats the same with me only lesser of a problem, it tends to occour when i fly planes or attack choppers, i suspect it's to do with the high settings and draw distance i have set. That said when i turned it all to min spec it still had lag!
Cypher
10th December 2005, 13:47
Yeah same. I now have everything on the lowest possible and viewing distance at 50%, and no change in performance
Langos
10th December 2005, 18:27
That's cause EA did something with the GFX in the 1.12 patch. To get the same performance as you had before the latest patch you need to lower your settings. I dont know what they did but I doubt it was an optimization...

Everything is on low...and the game is nearly unplayable, I cant move without lagging to death, and a darent attempt to fly anything, because I know I'll crash

i had exactly the same cypher, i found the new nvidia drivers helped me. i dont know if it was the actuall updating of the drivers that helped, or wether by installing them it reset something somewhere, but it did help remove 90% of the lag that 1.12 introduced.

tbh the new weapons dont bother me, i just hate noob tubing.

the g36e for medic should be ban its like the g36c for spec but it has burst instead of full auto and has 4 clips in stead of 2, it kills in a burst.
All the new weapons should be only for sf and shouldnt be playable in the bf2. they should have two patchs and run each game on its only and not combine them

I like the new guns in SF, they have a more realistic accurcy to them, what needs to be done now it to boost the accuracy of the rest of the weapons in BF2. It's amazing how they could let this slip though, have DICE Canada NEVER played BF2?
