If anyone got a 32 meg graphics card for sale then post up what it is in here. It's for my dad, he wants one for his PC for some reason. Put a price on it aswell to make things easier, I will buy it at i8 if my dad decides he wants it.

That particular card *has not* been in my M*c!!!! Dont worry it hasnt been poisoned or anything!!! I will guarantee it against m*c poisoning if you want!

Theres nothing wrong with a M*c G3/4 BTW, you just need to lose M*cOS, poke LinuxPPC on them, lever the a*ple logo off, give them a coat of Plastikote gloss black spray paint and they work fine!

People do use M*cs because they look nice. Thats why they sell them in PC W*rld. It gets people in the shop, then they sell them a crappy Advent PC (one of the few PCs that are worse than M*cs).

yea i thought bout that and i will when i can afford it, which makes me change my mind and instead do a radioactive sign, but as the case has a metal pattern on the out side it will make it hard to cut a window or do a decent logo painted on but im still considering both, look uot for it at i8 and youll C wot ive done :D
im also doing a stealth mod on both my CD drives which will look (or wont look in this case) impessive hehe

im gonna buy a hercvules prophet Geforce 2 MX 64 meg oem version. apparently they are not as fast as the retail but that dont mattercuz i can always clockit back up and higher :D
just wondering ifther was another card i could get that ws better for bout the same price (£120 ishhhh)

nVidia have whats called a "Reference Design". Basically these are base Specs/Components and Ram speeds, etc.. Some things are given scope, such as one company might use Mitsubishi (spell?) ram over say Hyundi. But its all pretty transparent to the end user (otherwise how would the drivers from nVidia work on chaintech or any other cards?) slight diffences occur in perfomance as cards from the last months chip yield were of very high quality (and as such overclocked better) and SDR ram prices have dropped as DDR is becoming more prevalent (thus enabling faster ram chips to be used). Damned my feeble brain, why cant I do this kind of writing for my coursework?!?!?!

The main difference between cards using the same nVidia chipset is what parts ot the spec the company decides to implement. For instance, the MX chipset supports Twin View (Two video outputs to allow two monitors at once, but with only one card). A lot of card manufacturers don't implement it tho so they can sell the cards cheaper.

The difference in performance is as Cabe said usually to do with what type of ram they use and how well they actually implement the chipset in their card.

If you wanna know if the Chaintech card is any good, do a search for a review on google or altavista. One of the hardware sites is bound to have reviewed it.

In the last issue of PC Pro they did a comparison of various cards, it doesnt mention the chaintech, but will give you an idea about how cards are just as good as one another and that opting for brand of price wont glean you any extra perfomance.

3dMark 2k scores 3199 - 3808 1024x768@32bit
a majority of cards were in the 3450 range, but the Gainward (anyone ever heard of them??) used "Golden Sample" GPU's which gave it a clear 400 extra 3dMark points.

QIII 50.5 - 59.0 1024x768@32bit
Again the Golden samples won.

but it does show that the range is quite small between the GeForce2MX cards.

So if the price is right, and i havnt heard of chaintech being bad, so take that as a good sign.

Get a GTS2 (Pro/Ultra if poss) - those MX 3dmarks look a bit ****ty to me.

Aria.co.uk and ebuyer.com seem to have the cheapest of the GTS2 series cards.

on aria.co.uk for like £82.19 without TV. Theres a 32meg version with tV out for slightly more but i dont want it.

i just need to know one thing. can you overclock this baby?? if so she is MINE :D buying this thing next week, **** the GTS i cant afford it right now, im still saving for an athlon 1.1Ghz and a decent Abit or asus board,

so can anyone answer my question? will this card be REALLY ****e and be no better than my TNT2 :P

No - they're quite good. I'd have one if I was after a (budget to mid-range system). I wouldnt expect to to whup ass exactly compared to a load of peeps, but it should do very well compared to a TNT 2. They overclock quite well but the performance increase isnt that hot compared to DDR based cards.

Personally I'd save up for the GTS2 as Cabe said the MX is crippled which it is. It's only another £70 or so. The Leadtek one is supposedly quite good, but I like Elsa cards for some fecking twisted reason.

Those Kyro II cards look quite good but they arent proven yet if you know what I mean.

[Addendum: Clocking - to give you an idea about GF cards: My GF2 Ultra runs at 250/460 out of the box but clocks to 305/515 no probs at all. Thats 8500 3dmarks peeps ;) ]

name 5 games that use features that the Geforce 2 Mx doesnt have not including the sheer speed of the GTS's

ok my PC can run all games i have well but the framerate can drop sometimes and the graphics aint 'badass' but they is pretty good dammit, i play CS most of the time ;)

also i have said many times before, i have the oldest monitor in the world and it only goes up to 1024/768 even tho its 17"

i may be getting a 19" soon tho :D
