Movies Made Into Games - Do They Work?

Movies are being made into computer games more than ever - can this work? Have there been any great games made from movie licences? Are they just unoriginal?

Agree, disagree, either way, air your views!

Even the rubbish looking ones (Shrek 2) are great (if a little buggy....and by "a little"...y'know... :p) I can't actually think of any bad film - game conversions, though I'm sure there are some. Even years ago they were good, I loved the Toy Story game etc

Independance day on the playstation

it was really awful!

Ah, luckily not having a PS means I missed that one :)

The game of Street Fighter - The Movie was as bad as the film. Although I think that one is fairly unique, as it's a game made from a film, that's made from a game.

Chronicles of Riddick was a very good game in my opinion.

This game truely did suckeh quite possibly the most ill speant £40 ever and back then Game/EB didnt do 10days no fuss just as well or this game would be readily availble in any pound shop.

There was an old Jurassic Park game on the the Amiga over head played like smashTV but an RPG was a very fun game.

Fox went through a phase of producing horse-**** property conversions like Die Hard (no matter what anyone says, the DH Trilogy games were ****) and Alien Trilogy

whilst the Alien Vs Predator series (for PC, not to be confused with he Atari Jaguar64 version) was not a direct movie to game conversion it was (and still is) one of the finest use of studio property I have ever had the pleasure of playing. A cracking game that really captures the feel of the movies. I do hope that...

A) They make a 3rd
B) It has Co-Op

perhaps something based on F.E.A.R's Jupiter EX engine, you should all be aware that Touchdown (http://www.touchdownentertainment.com/home.htm) (nee Lithtech) developed the engines for the current two games.

NEXT Aww, I quite enjoyed it. Although looking back it wasn't the best in terms of graphical quality.

AvP the movie was enjoyable - i wouldn't rush to play.com to buy the dvd, but i saw it at the cinema and didn't demand my £6.50 and my 2 hours back

AvP wasnt a Game > Movie conversion.

AvP has been a graphic novel series for years. The game just happened to be produced before the movie.

Personally i thought they did a pretty good job anyway, but then i like the whole Aliens / Predator sci-fi genre.

No really man, they don't work!

I mean, I really have great knowledge of movies available, and I know that movies that are related from games suck

To start the history:

MORTAL KOMBAT *I think it was written with a K*

I though that resident evil sucked, really hard! The movie, that is!
Its like a sequel of a VERY succesful game, which can always fail!
But if u talk about sequals of movies, they may rock
same counts for games, sequals of games (GTA3 GTA3: vice city GTA3: gta san andreas) they may rock too!

Mostly, the movies that come from games, lack of a really good storyline (maybe cuz we already know it) and are mostly action based movies! (Like doom, that has entered cinemas now)

I'd say, making movies from books are better than making movies from games!!!!!!!

Jurassic Park on the SNES. TRICERATOPS!!!! Loved that game, especially the FP-perspective when you entered a building. Looked like the old Windows-Maze screensaver :D

The idea of games being based on a film is fair enough. But when they develop the game and release it BEFORE the film is out, well in my opinion it defeats the objective of the game. Personally, if I were to buy such a game, I would go and see the film first. But then when you look at the game, you realise its another quickly-chopped up rehash of 3d modelling, retextured and had the EA sticker slapped on the front. My money is staying in my wallet :D

I lied about my age to get into indian bingo

Indiana Jones then

on the topic of great ocean games.

Big Trouble In Little China, Enter The Dragon, even more broadly licensed stuff like Daley Thompsons Decathalon

Theres no denying Ocean were gods of the license...

They went broke...

It can be done..

The great escape On the zx-spectrum, recreated the joys of living in a wartime prison camp. Digging tunnels to escape, getting the right pieces together to escape. Dodging spot lights, guards, guard dogs. IT was fab.

Where time stood Still Again on the spectrum, based on the land time forgot. You had to help the 4 people escape from the island full of dinosaurs etc.

The Untouchables Another great game..

Oh wait, they were all published by Ocean Software :)
