Help :- Installing BF2

It's be a while since I've installed & played BF2, but I thought I'd try out my lovely new machine by installing it. You would think it would be a case of just installing the game with the latest patch, but that didnt work, so I installed the game and patched in order v1.01 > v1.03 (or is it v1.0 > v1.3) ?

Anyways, after installing the game the problems start. Firstly the server browser... is it still broken?? Sometimes I can get servers listed, sometimes it just simply refuses. Once I get past that hurdle, I discover the Punkbuster doesnt like me, I get into (pretty much any) offical EA server or indeed MPUK server, after 1 minute I'm kicked becuase I'm running the wrong verison of Punkbuster. I popped over to Punkbuster BF2 (http://www.punkbuster.com/index.php?page=support-bf2.php) to grab the latest verison manually. I do this, try to get into the servers, kicked, still on wrong version of Punkbuster. How the hell do I play this game?

The kicked message refers to me not running Punkbuster Verson C1.212, which is right, I'm running C1.219. Any help in getting C1.212 would be most welcome.

yes the server browser is still arsed and the server side PB sometimes doesnt update correctly, sounds like a lot of servers need a restart?

The autoupdate on EA UK servers still doesn't work afaik. If it's your version that is out of date, download this file (http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbweb.exe) and place it in your BF2 root directory, EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\ and execute it. It'll update pb automatically.

As for the server browser, it is broken, again. That is one of the new features in v1.03

pbweb.exe doesn't need to be in the BF2 root folder, it will run from anywhere, but getting it & running it solved the "being booted out of servers" probelm for me too.

As far as the install problems go, I can't say I've had any problems installing it / patching it. Only time I've had a problem with BF2 (bar the server finder) is when it wouldn't start, which a reinstall resolved

Actually, it wont run from anywhere. Since pbweb.exe will update punkbuster for any game, BF2 CoD etc, it needs to be in EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\pb and not just GAMES\Battlefield 2\.

If you click the link in my post you'll get a file named pbweb.exe. Though I have to admit that couldn't find it on their webpage where it used to be, it still works however so it's all good. :)
