View Full Version : Revised Skitrip - La Plagne

Njoroge
25th October 2005, 12:50
Dates:
Sat 11th - Sat 18th March

Info:
Chalet 5 from her0ns list - click here (http://www.chaletfinder.co.uk/viewproperty.htm?pid=28626)
Ski in/out
Wifi
8 Man Jacuzzi
Newly furbed
Half board (Breakfast, evening meal - afternoon tea tbc)
Sleeps up to 20 (we *really* need 20 ppl to make it work)
6 Double rooms: £350pp
2 quadruple rooms: £320pp

Deposit:
The price is £100 per person less than the stock quote, but with a catch. We need to pay a 50% deposit. This mean that I need a £170 deposit from you. This very good price is based on 20 people. If we don't make up the numbers then we'll have to cover the cost. For 19 ppl that's another £20pp.

I need definate answers from you on this one. Tbh I think it looks very good and at a good price. I estimate that we have roughly 18 or so people. As well as posting here, contact me by email if you're interested. http://nj.atdot.at/email.gif

Can the people that have already paid £100 deposit pay another £70 each please. If we don't choose this path your money is safe.

Flight choices:
For easy jet flights see here (http://forums.multiplay.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36301)
Geneva:
- easyjet fly from liverpool or london
- lyon
- roughly £600 for pickup / drop off. Door to door, 8 ppl. click here (http://www.thecoolbus.co.uk)

Basel:
- I'll most likely be driving in a 11 seater minibus which will carry an estimated 8 ppl with gear (total guess)
- If I don't drive I'll see if I can get a hax group discount super advance ticket. Price tbc.
- Easyjet from to Basel for £50 from Liverpool or London

Additional costs:
- Flight
- Ski passes
- Equipment Hire
- Transfer

Lastly:
Quote from Zak:

ADVISABLE FOR EVERYONE!

Buy a helmet, seriously, I left one 2 years ago cos it wasn't the right "colour". The 9 months in hospital because of that were not what was wanted. So BUY A HELMET, I have.

You look like a tit not having one.

K thx bye.

Consider me signed up.

I have been tasked with sorting flight/travel options for the UK based contingent.

Im looking into flights independently, but could anyone suggest any decent travel agents in the UK who are adept at putting together travel packages to ski resorts?

Cool Bus sounds cool, may be an option for some of us.

Njoroge
25th October 2005, 13:02
Incidentally Morzine is still an option if the flights and transfers end up too costly.

Afty's looking into travel costs.

PLEASE everyone signing up or signifying interest, POST YOUR FAVOURED AIRPORT(s) when you sign up to help us calculate transport

OK, initial travel plans are:

If possible, fly to Chambery which is the closest airport. Failing that, travel to Geneva, not too much further.

Transfers may well be looked after by the curious people at www.thecoolbus.co.uk.

Best looking option for those with access to Birmingham or Manchester airports seems to be to fly to CHambery and coolbus across. From Manchester flights are £125 approx and coolbus is £55 return (based on 5 in the bus. Slightly less for more than 5)
From Birmingham flights are approx. £145, transfer costs the same.
As this would be from two different airports but one transfer, it means a little waiting around. We arrive within an hour of each other, but the Birmingham lot will need to waste the afternoon (for about 4/5 hours) in Chambery if we are to share connection via the coolbus. Max Costs with at least 5 total from the Midlands/North:
Manchester : £180
Birmingham : £200

Obtaining flights from the South to Chambery is somewhat more expensive. While Southampton is possible, it is around £190 (and would tie in with the coolbus contingent from Manc/Birmingham). Flying from near our fair capital to CHambery is currently somewhat elusive - I can't find any.
Best option for Nodnolers seems to be to fly to Geneva (circa £115, lucky sods) from Stansted, then coolbus it from Geneva to La Plagne at a cost of £55-£70 (based on 5-8 people sharing this connection) for a total max cost around £185 (based on at least 5)

So the total cost is looking likely to kick in anywhere from £500 to £550 depending on outbound airport, number sharing the bus, and chosen accomodation.

We're still looking into other transport alternatives, cheaper and easier (maybe) like rental etc. Will report back soon.

PLEASE everyone signing up or signifying interest, POST YOUR FAVOURED AIRPORT(s) when you sign up to help us calculate transport

Favoured airport is London City if there are suitable flights, then heathrow/gatwick, then stanstead at the bottom of the list.

So no snow train this year? :(

Ryv

bvark
25th October 2005, 15:21
Snow train looked like a couple of hundred quid each, pretty unimpressive pricing.

I'm looking at driving a minibus over from London, the ferry + road tolls + fuel are probably 175 quid, and it's about a 10 hour drive on the continent with stops, so not too dissimilar to the Munich -> Tignes trip.

Reckon the cost could get down as low as 75 quid based on 8 people, with the option of hitting a cheap hotel overnight in either direction to get one or two more days skiing in than the equivalent flights.

Deposit paid. Not sure on travel options. Can fly from Soton, Gatwick, Heathrow or Luton, but also like the idea of a mass convoy (clearly radios needed in each wagon tho - which I can sort).

This is clearly going to be win! Hot tub AND wireless net access.. clearly too upmarket for MPUK :o

You can go in front of a French judge explaining how you were driving without the owners permission and no insurance, I don't think my GCSE covered that.

My bank's money pigeons will be winging their way towards your bank account with my extra £70 grasped firmly in their claws, Ming.

Feed them before you send them on their way.

(What? I presume they're using carrier pigeon given the time it takes them to sort this kind of **** out...)

Basically you only get in if the old boys don't want to go. And as we've now got about 40 old boys of varying OB levels, people should really begin to consider that mythical beast known as 'plan another chalet in the same resort for the same time' ;)

I doubt there will be many chalets next year that can accomodate more (or even just the same). At some point, someone will have to bite the bullet.

Just thought id add another 2 cents..

on my overnight thrash to switzerland last year... about 9 hours of 120mph+
i got flashed by 4 speed cameras... which isnt a problem, becuase they dont chase uk plates... HOWEVER they are talking about making a european fine.. although they have been in talks for ages.. so just do a search beforehand.

THE BIG thing though is the french police... they WILL pull you over.. and can charge you what they think is fair.. usually unless you going over 120.. it will be 90euro.. and they WILL escort you to a cash machine if you dont have the money on you.

so if you do road trip.. look out for blue cars with white stripes, and mardy policemen that refuse to speak english... and look out for speed camera signs anyway. they are a little car with a wireless radar style symbol above. there WILL be a camera 1km away from the sign, in the central reservation (small black box).

Yeah, cars to the alps FTL, fly drive FTW.

Where do you peeps look for your accomodation ?

We're looking at having a clan ski trip next year and just wondered who/how you decide resort/accomodation etc.

andyf
10th September 2006, 18:45
I think the accepted approach is to find a map of the area we want to ski in, take a pin, close eyes, drop pin, then go from there.

Seriously I think people here have prior experience and just 'know' the area and who to possibly suggest. Otherwise I guess it's just good old fashioned detective work to find a suitable area.

Dav3y
12th September 2006, 06:57
O.K. cheers.

We're just tossing ideas around at the moment on resorts/possible accomodation to suit all levels of skier within a certain budget at a time that's convenient to all.

Just wondered whether you had a master planner that took care of most of the details, but seems not.

her0n
12th September 2006, 11:13
