anyone know how to remove it? i prefer the challege of doing SP without it

unless someone comes up with a console command for it (easiest route), i suppose you could make a mod to make all the crosshair textures transparent

ui_hitscanTint is the command to change the colour of your crosshair when it is over certain things.

Try this line out. At the very worst it will make your crosshair black. At best it will make it transparent.
g_crosshairColor "0 0 0 0"
