If you pay your deposit then I'll consider you a definate.
Balance is due in December.
Deposit is non-refundable unless the space is filled in which case you might get some of it back depending on what I like to refer to as hassle-tax. Other people call it the beer kitty - either way works ;)
I havn't clarified the details of last-minute cancellations but I will just for you Wizz

Don't worry Nj. You know if I have to cancel it'll be for a very good reason that'll mean losing a few hundred pounds will be worth it :p

It's March, so I'm interested because January wouldn't be possible. However the £100 is non-refundable and I may not be in work in March so I can't put my name down for this one.

You could save up... If you're truly incompetant at saving then entrust someone else with your savings so that you don't have access to them.
If you put away £30 a week without fail you'll have £660 by the time the trip comes about. Just don't spend it on your ricemobile

I will ask the question......
(Read, I am no longer in control of my social schedule and would prefer to confirm availability BEFORE I commit and find out I've double booked with something I knew nothing about. ;) )

If I'm not gonna be working, all the savings will be paying off my rent and bills, sod all will be going on cars or holidays.
Anyway I don't have £100 spare until payday, as per Aardvark's argument :(

Do keep your eye out for the "Ski trip very interested" thread then.
And as for number of snowboarders - roughly 60% of the contingent usually.

Having missed the one I organised for this year then I HAVE TO GO :) Although NJ did thankfully rescue itm can anyone who went tell me how it was? Looked ok from the booking.

oh what the hell, I'll say yes and will pay the deposit when details are available. It's only £100, and as bugs said, I'm a tax-dodging contractor anyway. I'll just throw it on expenses or something.

The chalet itself was a little dingy, but the resort was pretty damn good, the snow and conditions were superb (I've never ski'd in -22 with windchill of a further -15 before) and the company was, as always, inimitable. :)

Have we looked into the expected snow conditions here at this time of year? The whole thing is VERY low as far as I can see...
Morzine is at only 1000m, and talking to someone who has been there a couple years ago, it's a right pain to get up to Avoriaz (long journey, followed by crowded cable car) which you need to do as the runs around Morzine aren't too good, and by March probably unskiable. Even once you reach Avoriaz, it is still only 1800m and the runs it leads up to peak out around 2100m... pretty low for mid march.
Chalet looks amazing, but ski conditions could mean we see little to no time on the snow... Little worried about paying premium cash for a chalet which is un a pretty undesirable resort...?
K
24th October 2005, 13:06
sounds worrying, look at moving it?
her0n
24th October 2005, 13:07
erk yes march is considered sorta late season... perhaps we should be looking at a resort much higher up? perhaps around the 1800-2000+ mark?
Edit: been looking here.. http://www.bluebookski.com/bluebook9/Bluebook.htm
and i'm going to suggest La Plagne. Been there before and has some great runs and night life.. plus the bonus that most accommodation is ski in ski out :D
Afty
24th October 2005, 13:27
Update from experienced bloke here, if the snow *is* good, apparently the runs up around Avoriaz are ace, loads of variation and some massive, long motorway style pistes...
[KEA]Chairman
24th October 2005, 14:07
Yeah Avoriaz is ace something for everyone, its also fairly snowsure due to its extra height.
The downer is that if there's not much snow down in Morzine then the whole world plus dog heads for Avoriaz and it can get a bit crowded. The trek up can also be a bit of a pain.
We went on a a lastminute deal last year and there was tonnes of snow but the year before apparently it was really poor........
Njoroge
24th October 2005, 14:15
Snow conditions make all the difference on a skiing holiday.
If you have bad weather then you're not going to have as good a time as if you have good weather. If you have bad weather however I would rather be in a leet chalet and not have to travel forever to get there.
Regarding date, last year there wasn't much snow in general, but that didn't stop me skiing in April.
Additionally...
Grindelwald: 1,034-2,168m
Morzine: 1,000-2,350m
Date of Grindelwald skitrip: 23 March
Can I suggest that further complaints get sent here (dont.come.then@noone.fr).

There is a 1 in 52 chance that I may have an unavoidable commitment turn up in this week actually (wedding), now I come to think of it. If so I will make a decision on whether to repeat my mid-holiday country-fleeing shenanigans. :)

The easy way is to say to these two people you know "Im booking and paying for a holiday on these dates - I really hope your wedding doesn't fall then...?". That way either the wedding won't, or *they* will feel guilty for making you miss it...
Unless it's your own wedding your planning, in which case fair play. Marry her on top of a mountain? :p

Hmm, I'm down for cover at work, and I seriously doubt I could make it back to rural Gloucestershire in under 2 hours, so looks like I'm out of this for yet another year :(
Gives me a year to learn to ski competently.

Nope, not able to book holiday for then, it's not a case of notice, it's a case of the work rota saying that I am on a cover week, so I need to be in the country, near work to cover sickness or anyone else booking holiday. It sucks, and it's why I've missed Saturday of i24, i25 and can't make it to most of CLUK 10 (http://www.centralanuk.co.uk).

Previous ski attendance?
