Shadow of the Colossus

Due out Feb 2006, it looks like a really unique and innovative title. It's from the developers of ICO (one of my personal favourite games of all time)

Keep your eyes open.

I've had my eye on this for a while, it looks amazing. This and Okami have the rare compliment as the only games I've seen that make me want a PS2.

Never heard of Okami, I'll have to check it out. It's hard to justify buying a console for one game but if you can get hold of one to borrow I would *seriously* recommend playing ICO.

Looks interesting though

bit expensive for my liking really, tend to buy only budget games for my ps2 because i dont play it much, but might be a title to get a few months down the line :)

looks nice, though somehow prg-ish and i prefer playing those on my pc. is there going to be an online-mode (since this is the multiplay-forum)?

It's not an RPG (if that's what you meant?), it's actually an adventure/puzzle.

As for multiplayer, I highly doubt it. It's just not that kind of game.

For what it is worth, my opinion on this is that it is indeed good.

It has more game flaws than Ico ever did, for example the camera is often a pain to control. Plus I never felt with Ico that if I fell off a ledge or something it wasn't anything other than my own basic ineptitude. With Shadow I found mistakes brought on by the control system do happen.

But, it is vast, it is challenging, and very entertaining. I love the way you can spot a mountain in the distance, and just ride there until you are right next to it. There is a real bond between the central character and his horse that develops, as he is basically the only real company the central character has. I hesistate to call that character the "hero", because the reasons for slaying these huge beasts (still have another 4 to go so haven't finished it yet) does seem somewhat questionable, making me wonder really whether he is the good guy or not. Guess that might be revealed when I finish the game. But the colossi themselves are both terrifying and exhillerating. There is something about clinging for dear life on the back of some winged monster, trying to find his vulnerable points while he banks and turns desperately trying to shake you off.

spent sometime playing this overweekend.

first thoughts..

how long is damn intro.... ;)

oh my god this place is vast.
how fast can my horse go.
for a hero this guy stumbles and falls all over the place.
wheres the collusi?
blimey the first one is the smallest and hes tower over me.

ok there are flaws with the camera placement, but with deft movement of the camera analogue stick u can manaullu adjust this to compensate etc.

so far this is probably rating in the category of my 2nd fave PS2 game just behind GT4...

This game has met all my expectations and gone round for another lap. I love it!!

I completed the game in a little over 10 hours but it felt *so* much quicker than that, which is a bit of a shame. The camera is a little trickier to control than Ico was but then Shadow has a faster pace and requires you to act a lot quicker than Ico so your errors feel more forced.

The stroke of genius for me though was the addition of Hard mode and Time Attack mode after you complete the game. In Hard mode, as well as the colossi being tougher, their vital locations are actually different. Great stuff!

starting to think this game is very clever rehash of donkey kong. but still loving it, infact the best bit is working how to bring them down...
