A friend from work is trying to put together a uk-wide training matrix for various products..
What would be the best way of doing it, so you could search for a list of people who are trained on various products - for arguments sake i'll say there are 200 people, and 400 products.. and so a visial training matrix probably isn't the best way around it.

Any ideas?

Databasing is your friend.

Use something simple like MS access.

Table of people
Table of Products
Link table people_prod (many to many)

PEOPLE TABLE | | LINK TABLE | | PRODUC TABLE |
| | | | |
PersonID |1>>>>>∞| PersonID | | PRODUCName |
PersonName | | PRODUCID |∞>>>>>1| PRODUCID |

After setting up your relationships as above, use MS Access queries to retrieve the data you want.

Alternatively do it in SQL - but you'll still need at least three tables.

So personID 1 has records in the link table:

1 -> 2
1 -> 3

meaning that this person has training on product 2 and 3.

Will write it up properly for ya tonight.
