what was with that ending!!!

rest of the film was good tho, showing humanity at the bottom of the chain, getting its arse whipped good and proper!!

and if the tripods/striders had been there for millions of years, why had no one found them??

the ending is pretty much the book ending lol, least he kind of kept to it :)

except the family and boston i mean everywhere devastated apart from there and every1 alive...even the kid? i mean f*ck off lol....least the book did a good job of him reuniting with his wife

but how they beat them or survived them more like is how it was :) but for me the book did it better

class film none the less and def shud be watched

Hated how the stupid kid was alive and the perfect family was untouched, also hated how tom cruise took out a strider and the american bazooka brigade popped a tripod.

The ending was just too feel goody. Would have much preffered a 'just survived but at what cost' ending.

Film is definetly epic tho.

p.s. Why didnt they take over the earth when they were burying the damn machines a million years ago, monkeys would have put up even less of a fight, and what the hell was with the red weeds ???

Several Things

1) After The EMP why did the video camera still work?

2) After all the work with the CG for the Strigers and martians, WHY THE **** did they appear to make such a hash up of the red weed.

3) No Explenations about the events (red weed, how they were able to kill the striders when the rest of the time there were shields!)

4) WHERE WAS THE GOD DAMMNED MUSIC!!!!!!!!!

For 10's benefit, the red weed was what made Mars red (and infact the original coining of the phrase Martian) asn was supposed to adapt the earth for the invaders.

Well I hyped this film up in my own mind as a couple hours entertainment.

I mean, how could it go wrong? It had such epic foundations to build from.

I should have known better.

Director: Steven Spielberg

Ahh, why does that fill me with dread?

1) Men in Black 2. arghhhhh

2) A.I. - I actually died and was resurrected 2338717 hours into this film. Apparently my brain couldn't cope with the COMPLETE LACK OF STIMULUS and decided it was a toaster.

Ok so anyway.

Two hours of entertainment. NO NO NO. I get two hours of DYSFUNCTIONAL AMERICAN FAMILY ****, followed by seagulls ****ting on the ARMOURED DEATH MACHINES from mars and mankind winning.

No, really, I'd rather watch the Matrix trilogy again. Twice.

Well i liked it, the ending was predictable so id already prepared myself for that. Liked the way we didnt really see much action in terms of us fighting back, the idea was just to follow this ordinary family through an amazing crisis and to me their situation felt real.

It was an amazing spectacle theres still nobody out there that could of pulled off that first tripod scene better than Spielberg and i think most people felt a genuine sense of terror when people started getting dusted!

I did think it was really good, it did give off the sense aswell that you wanted to walk out of the cinema with the world still intact :p .

I liked it.

I've seen the 50's original film, and heard Jeff Wayne's version. I thought Cruise was good enough. Of course it deviated from the original book (there's a whole thread on religion missing) but it was still good.

I liked the design of the striders - they looked believeable, and the aliens had an element to them that made them more feasible than most other aliens.

I'm glad I saw it I think. I'd like to read the book now, and compare it to the film.

The special effects were fine, the way the film was presented I didn't care for, and if that's an "ordinary family" ... oh dear.

I just found myself hating Tom's character for being an idiot most of the time. Especially when he just stands around like a lemon after he son tells him he wants to go see the martians shoot everything (and consequent big explosion).

i agree with 10
tbh the film would have been better if it had an unknown actor in it, at least cruise looked like a tard for half the film :p:

I found myself blown away by the whole tripod scene, so so impressive.

thb I dont know why cruise gets such a hard time, I can think of many other far worse actors.

Couple of bad bits ie the shield going down for no apparent reason (or did I miss it?) Cheesy family bits, I like my films dark...

On the whole pretty good.

Cruise is getting slated these days because he's taking Scientology way too seriously...

I bet he seduced Katie Holmes by promising to take her too the moon and beyond... literally
