Somebody said this to me a few mins ago and was a bit dubious but seems to be on a few news sites now:

Seems a bit shocking as he always appeared very healthy. :(

It doesn't matter who they get to replace him to host Countdown, it just won't be the same. I think we should wear a colourful tie on this day every year to remember him by.

Indeed it is sad :( Countdown will never be the same. I wonder if channel 4 will show the last 5 episodes?

I read on one of the obituaries today that only the test-card girl (Carol Hersee) clocked up more hours on TV than Richard Whiteley. Countdown wouldn't be the same without Richard having a bad pun with Carol Vorderman.

If Countdown is to continue, I hope they get Giles Brandreth in. He's just the right kind of person to carry it on in a similar style.

LittleGem was quite shocked and distressed late last night when the first reports started to come in, he was a generally nice bloke and somehow TV will not be the same without him.

C4 have cancelled the next series, which was due to have 'guest presenters' (ala. HIGNFY) whilst he recovered... They're also currently undecided whether to show the last episodes of the series or whether too continue filming...

Sunday 26th June is now a day of mourning (IMO)...
