Hi i'm new to this forum, I have a Marvel 88E8001 Gigabit Ethernet controller on my Mobo, i know how to set it up ok but is it suitable for LAN parties, this is on a ASUS P4P800-E Mobo

Yep, anything like that'll be fine. Anything 100mbit and over is fine as long as it's not fiber ;)
