For the sales guys at work with laptops as well for me and the staff to dial in to access the systems..

Now, I used to use shiva modems for this, you have only number everyone calls but a bank of modems allows more than one person to connect at once..

Now, I visited http://www.shiva.com and find out 3 things.

1) Intel Bought Shiva
2) Intel make nice big expensive VPN systems
3) Shiva modems have all been discontinued from Jan 2001.

I want a method whereby I have maybe 4 or 5 lines, which all show as 1 number to allow remote access dial in.

Anyone got a suggested manufacturer of such a device, since thanks to Intel, shiva dont exist in the way I need them to.

Cheers.

Ok..

Found it, and here is a quick rundown..

What you need is a few ISDN lines, ask the Telco to give them all the same number..

Using a 3Com RAS 1500 unit, you then connect in your ISDN lines, which all have the same number, and voila, 1 modem, but accepting multiple dial ins..

its modular, you buy the base control unit, (1400 quid) then the cards, each card handles 4 isdn lines, (8 channels) and the cost per card is 700 quid each.

So basically start up cost of 2100 quid for a possible 8 incoming calls, on one number. Plus then cost of ISdn installation and line rental.

Add then 700 quid per extra 4 isdn (8 channels) needed.

Hmm, I have around 4 or 5 users needing access, for now I will just use 3 or 4 modems on different numbers :) until the MD says we need more access that is..

Shame about shiva discontinuing the dial in modems, I look to Intel for that..
