It's been a while since we've had a forum update on zakalwe (regarding this thread (http://forums.multiplay.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29341)) so I thought I'd post a quick message to keep you informed.

Essentially he's doing all right. He started talked a few weeks back and has been gradually improving. His leg which was damaged in the accident is now all but healed and he's walking about (although a little wobbly).

The great news is that for the first time since mid December he has been home! The quacks let him go for a weekend and he stayed at his parents house. He said he didn't want to go back to the hospital but I think he's playing hard to get with the nurses. It looks like he's going to be moved to a different hospital closer to home for the rest of his rehab which'll be a great for his parents.

It also appears that his memory is getting better. He says that the last he remembers is now July '04 up to about 6 weeks ago and when tested he seems to be right. The 2004 basel trip was at the end of July, so I'll make sure I remind him of his naked table dancing in the bond bar when I next see him.

Finally, his understanding is much better now. Although it's sometimes hard to ascertain, he understands everything that's said to him now. He does still have a problem finding words to use however but is getting better at describing the word now that his vocab has improved. He may yet call you a banana, or call you animal instead of your name, but we've all been known to do that... /me looks at banana.

When the opportunity presents itself I'll suggest that he get his ass online so that he can get his rehab MPUK style.

Really lastly honestly: I know it's been on everyone's minds so I'll clear it up for you. Yes, he's still a big fat whale.

Nj.

If we can get him working alphabetically, I think I could live with that... :)

Yeah, I'd second this report.

I last saw Dave the weekend before last and the improvements keep coming. His speech, movement, co-ordination, memory, and most importantly personality are all coming back.

I think getting home will be a huge boost for him morale-wise. It's a lot easier to recuperate in the home environment. Makes it harder to visit with him down in Kent but given the progress he's made so far I'm sure it won't be all that long before he's ready to move back up to London and rejoin the metropolitan herd.

Hurrah!
