Okay I got the game this morning in the post, and I installed it this evening. While passing time during the installation, I started reading the handbook.

I got to page 4 then read this...

Install software for Allegiance and the MSN Gaming Zone on your computer.
Create a Zone ID to play Allegiance on the Zone.
Subscribe to play as part of the Allegiance Zone on the Zone. Your first month of play is free with your subscription (my emphasis)


WHAT THE **** IS THIS???
I've got to PAY for the privilege of playing this online???

nope, you only need to pay if you want to play in the Allegiance Zone, the Free Zone is just that. I've been playing in the Free Zone since i got the game a year ago.

p.s. still need a zone id though. (which is also free)
