Anyone know how I can set it up so that when people click on my computer (windows xp) listed in the workgroup, they can access it without needing a username/password? my shares are set to allow 'everyone' read access.

Am I missing somthing?

Apparently it will work if I use 'simple file sharing' but I'd rather not if theres an easier way.

Cheers

Enable the "Guest account".

This may work, however, as of SP2 there is an optional extra tweek you may need to do.

In "local security policy" in admin tools, click "Local security" > ""User rights assignment" > "access this computer from the network" and add the guest account to the list

Does guest have rights over the files/share also? Simple file sharing assumes it I think, whilst normal sharing doesn't. If its not set, it's not there.

Yeah tried it with guest. Also simple file sharing works with guest account disabled..

Dont see why it dosnt let you access the PC by default to view the actual shares then lets you access each share for the rules you apply to it.
