Making their i-series debut, Atari will be offering gamers at the i23 LAN party over the Easter weekend chance to try out Act of War: Direct Action on the PC. Their stand will feature 8 PCs where i23 visitors can try out the near-future, geopolitical techno-thriller which is described by some as "Command and Conquer: Generals goes to Hollywood".

"We're delighted to welcome Atari to their first i-series LAN event." said Craig Fletcher, Managing Director of Multiplay UK. "With over 1000 confirmed attendees so far, i23 gives a great opportunity for dedicated gamers and publishers to meet face-to-face. LAN parties are no longer just about masses of gamers with computers in a building, but also an ideal platform and forum for games publishers and hardware companies to engage directly with the core of the gaming community. Multiplay is ideally positioned as the leading provider of LAN events in the UK to help develop closer ties between gamers and games companies."

Act of War: Direct action offers players the opportunity to zoom in and engage the battle from street level perspective on urban battlefields such as San Francisco, Washington DC, London and Moscow. Act of War: Direct Action features a single player story mode but also various multiplayer modes including 8-player LAN and online skirmishes.

Drawn from the imagination of Dale Brown, 15-times New York Times best-selling author and expert on US military, global conflict and future military technology, the game tells a highly realistic, near-future story of a US elite force fighting an international plot to overthrow the current world order.

This gives visitors an ideal opportunity to try out the game first on the Atari stand and then get their hands on a copy straight away to continue playing on the LAN.

i23 is the latest in Multiplay's i-series of LAN events, which are currently by far the largest events of their kind in the UK. i23 will see in excess of 1000 gamers from all over the UK and beyond bring their PCs to take part in what can only be desribed as a 4-day festival of gaming at Newbury Racecourse, Berkshire. It all takes place over the Easter bank holiday weekend over 25-28 March, 2005.
