hmm, considering what barrysworld means to the online gamer, and the current climate against GSp's in particular, any news where a company that supports free gaming is supported is good news.

Add to that this is barrysworld we are talking about, one of the best ones there was, makes it even better.

whats sad here avatar is your ignorance of what barrysworld stands for and the effect it has on providing free games servers for us all.

without such gaming isp's, then all free games eventually would dry up.

I'm also glad to hear this, as BW is one of the most recognised gaming hubs in the world. The liquidators must have recognised this to permit the servers to keep on running after the date that they officially "closed".

Add to that the fact that it's EB and it could come to something. EB have been known to be "pro-gamer" for quite some time and they would look on buying up BW as buying into 300,000 possible customers for their games.

The only reason the liquidators kept barrysworld up is cause otherwise it isn't worth anything.

Its just a line that'd be canclled, some servers and an office

Once it ceases to become a community it loses its value to any potentional buyers

It really does make perfect sense though. EB could well be trying to copy Gameplay's model of having an online community driven by a shop window gaming service, seeking to capitalise on the big hole in the gaming market created by the departure of Barrysworld. Very interesting developments indeed.

And as such, access to the main and most popular BW services (games servers, leagues etc.) would almost certainly become pay per play.

Don't believe me? Tough, it will happen. All the GSPs want it, some need it, others can last a little long before they need it, but it *will* happen.

Please man, wake up. 'free' gaming will be gone soon, and the sooner the better. As soon as people actually start paying for what they use, the services will become better and alot less servers will be full of script kiddies and pe0ns.
'Barrysworld' or 'EBWorld' will *not* be supporting free gaming, just as soon as they can they are moving over to a pay-per-play model.
This has been announced by EB.

Stands?
Stood.
Right up until that incident with the new switch being needed, and thousands of pounds being pledged by people about 18 months or so ago (could be more) Barrysworld stood for free gaming and community.
Since then there has been a decline in this stance, and when the money men moved in last year, the events we have seen were inevitable.
Barrysworld now stands for free gaming no more than any other GSP - Jolt, Netgames, Games Inferno.
All will move to subs based services eventually, probably soon.
There is no such thing as 'free' gaming - I for one welcome the day I can actually PAY for my gaming, and enjoy it all the more for it.

Yay to ;) Barrysworld

Anything that means it stays alive, subs or not, is a good thing in my book :D
