The next leap in display technology has been made by ViewSonic (http://www.viewsonic.com/xtreme/) according to ExtremeTech (http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1776545,00.asp?kc=ETRSS02129TX1K0000532), Viewsonic plan to ship their new high speed 4ms panels sometime this summer. Yes that’s right, you heard me,
<b>4ms!!!!</b>. A speed which equates to a massive 250Hz refresh rate.</p><i>"Viewsonic is quoting 4-ms
grey-to-grey response times for the two new monitors, along with a 5-ms (typical) response time for other
gradations. The company already ships a pair of LCD monitors with 8-ms response times, the VP171b and VP171s,
and plans to ship a third model, the VP191b, in the near future...."</i><p>Could this finally kill off the CRT
for LAN gaming? Thousands of chiropractors hope not I expect :)

yeah, but are we going to see these things at sub-£300/£400 prices any time soon?
nobody cares about the speed of TFTs anymore... they just want the prices to bloody come down so people can actually afford them...

Well hopefully as 4ms ones become the standard the older ones will become cheaper. I like the idea of picking up a 21" TFT for a low price just because it has a comparatively high response time. Have to wait and see I suppose.

Nice one probably cost about 2 grand when it ships. :D

How wrong you are. Of course no one with any sense is going to buy a 20+ms TFT for gaming. Unless they are very very stupid.

I think what he means is that todays moniters (tft's) play games fine, and spending loads of money on 4ms (which your brain would have trouble telling the diffrence anyway) is just another cock extention ;p

I still dissagree. I'm a repair engineer and my primary job is monitors, so I deal with 20 or so a day.
There is a huge difference between 4ms and 20ms and yes your brain would notice ghost images over the screen on a 20ms monitor in a fight of doom3 or UT2K4.

Earthwalker, you're missing the point...
people don't want constantly lowering refresh rates, because it keeps driving the prices up...
When that happens, people don't buy the things (either due to stupid prices or fear of obsolescence due to the market turnover) and when that happens, the prices don't fall due to low demand...
its a viscious circle thats showing no real sign of disappearing...

I'm not missing the point m8. I understand exactly where you are coming from but this statement "nobody cares about the speed of TFTs anymore" had to be corrected somewhat.
I personally couldn't give a flying stuff for a 4ms RS. I've played around with so many and have decided that a 12ms RS is all that is needed. Any lower IS pointless and a waste of money. Higher than 12 and you really can't play hi-action games with any great effect.

Optimus,
What I think Earthwalker is trying to say is don't make blanket statements about what people care or don't care about.
Sure state your opinion but make it clear that it is your opinion and not every person on the planet's opinion.
I'm a laid back guy, but when someone claims to speak for me that riles me up, this one of the reasons I don't like politics.

"Viewsonic's vice president of Asia-Pacific sales and marketing, Allan Chang, told DigiTimes that the larger panel will cost approximately $549. Both monitors will ship in May and June, respectively."
I'm gonna buy one.

i have a 16ms 17" tft and it works fine no ghosting at all so i agree i think the prices will finaly come down on TFTs if these 8 -4MS response times acctually pay out!
ps im getting one :p
