Hi all.

2 questions for you.

i have been going on about this for a while now, and have decided to finally get on with it.. re-proxy.

I have a semi old box (AMD XP1800 80Gb Hdisk 512Mb) sitting unused, and I also have Microsoft's Action Pack, which I think is fairly complete software wise..

So.

This is the current Setup

INTERNET --> [ROUTER] --> Switch--> Clients

ok, what I want is to change the proxy setting in Internet explorer only..

This will allow games to connect via default gateway and go straight out.. allowing map downloads, auto updates etc etc

In internet explorer I want to add the IP Address of the Proxy.

Here is part one my Question.
What software should I use..? I think I have most of MS products now in the action pack..

EDIT: Decided upon win2003 standard server + ISA 2004.

here is part two

Internally the IP of the router is 192.168.0.100
I want the local clients to have default gateway of 192.168.0.100 and the internet explorer to have proxy IP 192.168.0.200

But will having the proxy on the same subnet cause problems?

as in, network card 1 in the proxy.. (OUT) Ip 192.168.0.201
Def gateway 192.168.0.100

Card 2 (in)
IP 192.168.0.200
def gateway 192.168.0.100

Will this cause issues?
normally the proxy resides on a different subnet.. so will having both of the proxies network cards on the same def gateway cause issues..?

Cheers..

Quick word Diag..

For games..
Client --> Router (192.168.0.100) --> Internet

For Browsing
Client --> Proxy IN (192.168.0.200) Proxy out (192.168.0.201) --> Router (192.168.0.100) -->Internet

well i managed to wipe the pc, install server 2003 and install ISA 2004 in less than 40 minutes.

add another hour or so updating..

Then add another hour while I work out what buttons did what..

and managed to get it working.. with just 1 netcard.. (has 2 but can use 1 only).

Works like a dream, so many damn options though..

I mean, there are options on options upon options, with suboptions..

want to filter messenger, or AOL messenger.. how about ICQ or yahoo..

Want to allow chat.. but block file transfer in messenger..

How about allow chat, allow file transer, but not allow transfer of certain file extensions... (this is a messenger filter not IE).

As to internet explorer options OMG... so many options..

anyway its working..
But it will be another 3 weeks before I can comfortably say I can configure it properly, if not more..

But Yes, finally, IT WORKS::
