Greets,

I've got a pair of rather shiny games in the post to me, Gran Turismo 4 and Tekken 5, but as far as I am aware, they won't currently play on my PS2.

Why? Because they are american versions of the games, as the UK release dates for these two games are so retarded I could not be arsed waiting.

Sooooo ... what do I need to do to my slightly dust-covered PS2 to get it to accept these? Any lid-flip tricks to make them play, or do I have to get a modchip in ? If so, how tricky, and any recommendations for the chip?

You have two choices:

1. Solder a mod chip onto the PS2. No disc swapping required, it will play whatever you put in.

2. A non-solder mod, you can plug a chip in using ribbons. This is safer but requires the disc swapping method with a boot disc in order to play any imports / backups. Disc swapping will get irritating over time if you use the console a lot.

Either way you're going to invalidate your warranty and be breaking UK law, I'm almost certain a judge ruled that chipping PS2's is illegal in the UK after the whole Lik-Sang mess a while ago.

If I was you I wouldn't pay more than 20 euros for the kit to do this. Ebay might be worth a try.
