Below is a list i've been compiling of some of the most useful addons and enhancements I have come across whilst playing WoW. This list will be routinely updated as newer releases become available and any feedback or additions will be added as they are made.

Compilations

Insomniax Recompilation - http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=297

This compilation contains some of the best UI modifications created for for World of Warcraft, it was made initially as a personal collection but after realizing getting some of these mods to work together or even standalone was a bit complicated for the average user I decided to release this compilation. Credit should go to the original authors of the modifications who gave their free time and effort to bring us all these great enhancements to the game...

NurfedUI - http://www.nurfedui.net

Popular compilation containing many well-known addons that doesn't clutter up your screen with this "nurfed" interface...

CTmod - http://www.ctmod.net/

Brought to you by the staff of WoW.WarcraftStrategy.com, CTMod is an improved User Interface mod for World of Warcraft. It is functional with the latest patch and will have more functions added as time permits. CTMod was the very first with several innovative features, such as the Map Mod and Buff Mod...

Standalone Addons

AF_Tooltip - http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=427

Welcome to 5.0 of AF_ToolTip. Imagine any color you want, and it is there. With version 5.0 you can define your own color chart to suit your mood, and share them with your friends! Based on simple hex web colors, even a beginner can pick it up fast with my walkthrough. Please read the readme file for more information!

(more details found via url)

Carnival - PvP/PvE Enemy Cast Bar - http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=3103

Displays a replication of your targets spell casting bar on your UI, which can be moved around. Spell casting time is not something that is available to your WoW client, so I have provided cast times for most (if not all spells). As talents can be a factor on the cast time of some spells, the lowest cast time possible is used ie. all Shadow Bolt cast times will display at 2.5 seconds even though the player you have targetted doesnt have those specific talents. Interruptions on your target, ie. they get hit, will not adjust the display on your cast bar, as again, its impossible to know if it affected the cast. This currently works for both Alliance and Horde, but has only been really tested playing against alliance characters. Will display either a green cast bar for friendly targets, or a red for a hostile target...

CT_RaidAssist - http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=694 [Highly Recommended]

In short, CT_RaidAssist reports hp, mana, buffs, and debuffs of anyone or everyone in your raid. You can set it to notify when someone is debuffed with specified types as well as notify when buffs you can recast fade. We've added 5 'MT Target' options which allow you to specify up to 5 MainTanks's which users can then select which 1-5 they want to show. When shown, it will show you the target of the person set as MT...

DamageMeters - http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=791

DamageMeters monitors damage and healing done by and to yourself and other nearby players. It keeps a running total for each player and displays the information as a bars chart in a frame on the screen. It is perfect for real-time comparison of the various members of your party or raid. At any time the text results can be output as "says", to raid or party chat, or whispered to another player...

Decursive - http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=643

This is a cleaning mod. Its job it to help a class that can remove debuffs, do it with ease. Load the mod, bind a key (or create a macro "/decursive") and run, no further configuration or editing needed, it auto configures. Run the mod when ever you wish to cleanse a status ailment, or even think one might be on your target, party, or even raid party, if nothing is cleaned, there is no penalty or cool down...

EquipCompare - http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=308

In WoW when you shop for items at a merchant and you hover over an item, you get a comparison tooltip showing the "currently equipped" item too. This AddOn adds such a feature everywhere in the game where you can hover over items, such as in your bags, in the loot window or on the reward page of a quest. You also receive comparison tooltips when clicking an item link in the chat box...

EnergyWatchV2 - http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=2233 [Rogue]

Displays energy ticks and combo points on a progress bar...

LootLink - http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=130

LootLink: This is a browseable, searchable in-game item database, with the caveat that it starts out empty. It automatically adds item information that it picks from a number of different places: your character's inventory, other characters' inventories whenever you target them, links in chat, items in your bank, etc. LootLink will also color the links in loot messages with the correct rarity color, if the item is in its database...

StunWatch - http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=886 [Rogue]

StunWatch displays up to 5 progress bar for Cheap Shot, Kidney Shot, Gouge, Blind and Sap and can be extended to track other target effects

StunWatch tracks rogue stuns applied to your current target only (not anything near you)...

ScrollingCombatText - http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=222

What is it? - A fairly simple but very configurable mod that adds damage, heals, and events (dodge, parry, windfury, etc...) as scrolling text above you character model, much like what already happens above your target. This makes it so you do not have to watch (or use) your regular combat chat window and gives it a "Final Fantasy" feel...

Sorren's Hunter Timers - http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=2595 [Hunter]

Currently, this mod will time the duration of various hunter abilities in a draggable frame...

TitanPanel - http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=860

The ability to have 1 or 2 Bars at the top and/or the bottom of your screen
Many built in Addons that give great a great core set of features
Easy to use Options to change features on the fly...

Utilities

WoW Model Viewer - http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=2090

WoW Model Viewer is a 3D model viewer for World of Warcraft®. It uses the data files included with the game to display the models from the game: creatures, characters, spell effects, doodads, items, etc. You can dress up and customise the character models or just view NPC models...

Another really good one that I use is CTMod. Find it at CTMod (http://www.ctmod.net)

This one allows virtually everything to be customised with a nice feature on the Map that allows you to mark a point on your map and send it to another players map (they also need ctmod)

CTMod's map tool is not the common one used.

The most used one is MapNotes, which is a million times better than CTMod's one (and is included in CataUI ;)), and is used by Cosmos and non-Cosmos alike.

The only bit I really find beneficial on the mods is the extra toolbars, everything is else is kinda secondary because at least for alliance ive done every quest up to 44 at least once and I know where virtually everything is. (Beta testing helped :D )

Ive heard good things about cosmos its just I seem to have less hassle with ctmod.

You've heard good things? You're the first person I've heard say that, lol.

Some people use it because they just want something quick and they don't want to update/change things, which is fine.

But anyone who uses mods on a regular basis ends up using CTMod or their own custom setup, so you've got a good start with CT :)

I'm working on a mod package myself at the moment. If you're coming to i23 come see me in the UT section (I'm an admin) and I'll give you a look. It will be released this weekend on the 'net too I hope, so we'll see how people like it :)

Sweet stuff! Im too much of a computing pe0n to design my own but ill be happy to do some testing for you.

Ill probably try it on one of my level 12-28 characters rather than my level 44 though

Insomniax very good once you have configed it to how you want it. Although I do have annoying error when ever I get out the map... so maybe some xml hacking needed.

in ctmod .

how do i add extra bars. i.e. more bottom bars.

is it also possible to show more than 1 scroll skill bar at a time without having to up/down to view it.

Towneh
15th December 2005, 13:39
I really should update this list, things have progressed a bit since.

LozB, CTmod doesn't really have much in the ways of customisable bars, true it has handy secondary and side bars, but you may want to look at mods such as Flexbar or NurfedUI for extra bars.

I've been using a NurfedUI setup for a little while now, with a couple of extras here and there:

i thought that somewhere in the standard gui u could add extra bars?

Towneh
15th December 2005, 14:44
You can, but its all a question of "how many extra bars do you want?" the standard UI only gives a couple more.

Lucifa

If you still have ctmod, open the options (should be little button next to your minimap) and select the second tab down, all the top 4/5 options cover extra bars.

im after 2-3 skill bars in the default location. i dont want side bars from ctmod. just stackable bottom bars.

I want to bin all my UI's and start again

All I want is lots of bars at the bototm, customisable health/mana bars, atlas, the clock, that one that compares your items with equipped items, Auctioneer and a couple of the other useful bits in Cosmos (without actually getting Cosmos)

Here's a few that I've been using for ages now and haven't been mentioned:

AF_ToolTip (http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=427) - Tooltips you can customise.

LootLink (http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=130) - A searchable database of every item you've ever inspected.

QuickMountEquip (http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=282) - Automatically switch gear when you mount and dismount.

StunWatch (http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=886) - displays up to 5 progress bars for cheap shot, kidney shot, gouge, blind and sap.

Any chance anyone call tell me what they use for detecting spells being cast on you? like this Spell Alert 3.0 (http://ui.worldofwar.net/ui.php?id=457) but that's in development still.

Decursive is the bees knees for mages, shamans, druids, priests etc.

Specially usefull when you are fighting a bugger like Ghennas in MC who uses an AoE curse!

My other new favourite is Titan bar with which I also use the Guild plugin.

Finally I make full use of Auctioneer along with Enchantrix and Informant.

Suffice to say in full combat with everything turned on in MC i cant see much at all!
