I get to work.
My boss says we have a lunch meeting, so no lunchbreak (eating but no going out)
During the morning, my boss tells me that we need to start teaching IT to all the learners (800). I am the only person qualified to teach IT. I refuse.
She tells me that the big boss wants it to happen. I tell her it can't be done, and tell her I've already told the big boss this.
She tells me its me being awkward.
I tell her "No, I teach maths 6 days a week, where do I fit IT in?"
She tells me I obviously have a confidence issue.
I tell her again I already work 51 hours a week teaching maths.
She tells me I'll have time.
I refuse.
Meeting happens at lunchtime.
People fanny about, chatting a load of ****. I would just like to get on with my work, perhaps we could sort out the meeting and be done? No, clearly that is too much like being organised.
I am again asked to do IT and again refuse. I point blank tell my boss that if I am asked again to teach IT I will leave, and go to another training provider to teach only maths. I also inform her that for the money the company offer they would be lucky to find anyone to teach maths let alone IT. I suggest the receptionist could teach IT, inbetween filing her nails and doing her make up. She has an A Level in IT, and tells me this everytime I see her. Its just a shame she doesn't know how to send an email with an attachment *sigh*
I then go to the hospital as I have a problem with my eye. The junior doctor goes "Can't see anything, I'll just get my registrar to sign you out" The registrar then tells me that my retina may be torn, I cannot drive until Monday at least and have to have eye drops every hour to relieve the swelling.

aww :( *hugs*
I've had a pretty **** day too, maths teacher told me earlier that I would have to drop accelerated maths, ie I could't take further maths. That being the only reason I wanted to stay at my school ffs. He wants me to give up because according to him I don't show the commitment and I've obviously been struggling with it...now I don't know which student he thinks I am...but I really haven't struggled with it at all. And I hate the tendency I have to ****ing burst into tears if anyone says anything to me like the above. Renders me unable to talk back and defend myself dammit :/
and I think that's possibly the longest post I've typed for a long time...

I hate that too, when you get so wound up it makes you cry, and then you act like a gimp.
The big boss gets me into that state. Everytime I talk to her and tell her something she doesn't like, she talks about my mum (who died 2 1/2 years ago) and it reduces me to a crying quivering wreck.
Can't do anything then :(

Might be a stupid question but why do you teach Maths 6 days a week - isn't school only 5 days a week.
Anyway well done for sticking up for yourself and telling them where to go, although personally I would have said triple my pay and then I'lll do it.

:( *hugs* :(
They all sounds like big bullies to me.. Er00 you should stand up for yourself. Dont let the teacher f*ck about with your future. If your happy doing it, keep doing it, if he/she insists you drop, take it higher (Head of Year, deputy head , etc). He/she must have some evidence of your lack of commitment, but to me it sounds like the school is just trying to get good exam results. Eg. get a talented person like urself to take a lesser exam so you'd get excellent marks.
Top totty, I feel for ya, nothing worse than being bullied at work. It's nothing short of bullying if they are using emotional blackmail or start dumping a ton of extra work on you for no extra money. It sounds to me they are being very unreasonable :(, yet what can you do?.
I think Top Totty's boss, and Er00's Maths teacher each need a good slap!.

Not Illegal as such.
If you want to quit at any point it would be probablye be constructive dismisslal, eg sue their arses.
Start making diary notes when they ask you to do unreasonable demands or bring up the subject.

Thanks Tsu ^^
I will try going to talk to him tomorrow, unfortunately as I have a habit of not really being great at doing homework not many teachers like me, but if he still insist I'll go see my head of year :)

I work for a private Government funded training provider training Modern Apprentices. Because a lot of them are employed in nurseries and can't come out, I work Saturdays to teach them.
The only free Saturdays I have are LAN weekends lol

yes this is a very **** day
1. I come in this morning to find one of the database servers as thrown a wombler cause a process ran 600+ times in the space of a few seconds filling the index file over the file limit ( a measly 2gb). We couldnt revert to last nights backup cause of the work that was done over night would have been lost. So am having to do what called a Re-Org (kinda like a windows defrag but just focuses on the database), anyways i came into work at 7:30am and im still here now doing the reorg.
2. At about 10:38am another database (oracle one this time the other was a bespoke warehouse managament system). Anywasy this one decided itg would no longer import new orders into the system as was throwing up errors every 30 minutes.
3. MSX edb file decided that all distribution lists were now invalid and so no users can send to the groups
So one day and THREE database problems, all running different styles of databases and so I dont think the problems are related its just one of those days!

\o/ hope ya feel better Toptotty, eye problems are crappy (ive had my fair share of eye infections, contact lenses getting stuck etc)
Sounds crappy :( Remember always stand up for yourself. Ive met plenty of bullies to know this very well. Won't take things without making a fuss if i don't want to.

My day yesterday was going well... Until I had to read a manual translated from russian into faltering english, on a very technical subject I'm not too familar with (Search engine page ranking formulae), and implement it into a (soon to be) production system for use by thousands. :)
I think the worst part of the manual was this: Relevancy for every found document is calculated as 100% multiply by cosine of an angle formed by weights vector for request and weights vector for document found. The number of vector coordinates is equal to multiplication of the number words forms in search query and the number of sections defined in indexer.conf. Every vector's coordinate is corresponds to a word in search query that fit one of document section. The values of this coordinate is depends on weight for this section defined by wf parameter (see the Section called Changing different document parts weights at search time) and what this word is: exactly the same as in search query or it's word form or synonym. And one more coordinate is equal to average distance between searched words in document. For query's vector this coordinate is equal to 0.

For Totty's problem, the simplest thing is to get a copy of the current schedule and present it to "the big boss". Since it is "the big boss" that wants it done, "the big boss" should be the one asking.
It sounds like blatant bullying to me and you should ONLY accept changes your contracted teaching IN WRITING. It sounds like they are trying to squeeze you out and they're putting pressure on you so that you quit. Just have a quiet word with "the big boss" that you are not happy with the way you're being treated. If it continues, don't warn "the big boss", just take it to THEIR boss. The next time "the big boss" mentions your mother, point out that what they are doing constitutes emotional bullying and is a disciplinary offence under most company grievance procedures.
From the way you've put it in this thread Totty, "the big boss" uses your mother to get you to back down.... don't take it any longer.
Er00's problem is far more obvious. The teacher is not bothered about your career or wellbeing at all. He is 100% interested in maintaining the school's exam results. THAT'S IT, full stop.
DO NOT give in to bullying or "persuasion" tactics. You are in school doing A level maths by your choice. The school already has the money from the local authority for your place so they now have a duty to provide the education. You stick to your guns Er00... if this teacher tries more pressure or tactics, go straight to the head of your year and make your case there. Don't warn the maths teacher.... just do it. I'd also mention it to your parents and get them involved in helping to fight your corner. People give their folks a bad press, but they're usually on YOUR side.

Thanks Zen :) I went and spoke to maths guy earlier, he said he'd have to sort out an "action plan" type thing if I was to stay on doing maths, but he'd have to discuss it with head of year first. If he comes back and says no I'll talk to form teacher bout it, if I can get her on my side then I'll be fine, she's pretty intimidating :p:
