They are called "Dropped Calls" which are caused by "Predictive Dialing Systems" and are in essence becoming illegal (Well the dropped call percentage will only be allowed to be 3% where at the moment most places have a dropped call average of 60%)

It's just bloody annoying. When you're on a switchboard you already have enough calls coming in without those ghost calls :(

its usually asvertisers that ring about 5 numbers at onece.. and only speak the first one that answers.
you can register your number to get rid of these..
i did this and within a month i have no advertising or propped calles at all.

The worst ones are when they 'just want to confirm a few details' and then ask every question under the sun!
Usually they just check the address and a few people's names and positions.. but once i got a call asking all sorts, from checking if people still worked there, who looks after company cars/mobile phones/health and safety etc.. even if we had a vending machine!?
It was such a long and arduous call that one of the ladies in the office next door brought me a cup of tea afterwards :) she said to me 'I think you might need this!'
Bless her.

we had our home number "taken off" the list, we get more than ever I swear :/ as in, when I checked the answerphone, we had 5 calls from between 12 and 4. One was "we'#re calling from the business reward centre in LA....bla..." and 4 were no messages from no numbers :/

Yeah since we went onto the telephone preference service our number of calls like that has more than doubled.

I had a phonecall earlier at work where I answered, and I all heard on the other end sounded like a mini-version of Big Ben doing its chime routine over and over....

we are currently getting calls for the local surgery, they got a new number that was meant to be easier to dial, only if you remove the 0 its our number, so alot of people get though to us.
Damned calls are a pain :(

My sister keeps getting calls for a local takeaway, so shes now started pretending to take orders for them. ;)

i get a call almost EVERY day at home..
becuase i have call logging.. it says its an INTERNATIONAL call.. and thats it.
my wife was at home one day and she answered it and it was some bloke asking for me personally. she then said i was at work as i am every day and she would take a message... so he left his name and said i would know what its about.
i have no idea who he is, and im never at home when he calls.. and i dont have a number to ring back as it just says international call... and he NEVEr leaves a message on the machine..
maybe i have a long lost brother! lol
