The newstory (http://www.disasterrelief.org/Disasters/001226chernobyl/)

The game sounds like a direct rip off of history. If so, to me, that sounds a bit sick.

I hope some of the profit from this game is going to help the poor in Chernobyl who are *still* suffering from this terrible disaster.

The game looks to be very interesting, the location is no more or less worse than any other real world location. I'm not sure (because ive never been there) but they say they have recreated the city rather well (authenically).
How is this more sickening than lets say Medal of Honour?, or any other game based on actual real life events of the past? (which im sure some ppl still suffer from). It would be sick if your objective was to cause the disaster in the first place, but far as Im aware this is not the objective of the game.
To be fair, this game is likely to highlight what happend in the past and make people aware of the effects. A lot of people don't know what happend on April 26, 1986 in Chernobyl but it did effect a large part of europe.

Remember it is just a GAME :).

i can see what you're saying, but how many WW2 games are made, and there doesn't seem to be an end to those. they use a real world event for inspiration for their game. noone will make you buy it. getting entertainment from a disaster may seem sick to some, but it won't be the first game to do it. the game is not set in 1986, but 2012 (i think) just using the setting of chernobyl and the surrounding area, the majority of the game is fictional.

As Freelance said, its a fictional game that uses the 'Zone' around Chernobyl as its setting...
The plot is that the radiation caused strange mutations and the russian government is conducting strange experiments out there...

Stalkers are freelance mercs who patrol the zones looking for treasures and salvagable equipment... You are one of these mercs, and probably stumble across the experiments and have to stop/destroy them, as the enevitable good guy that you are...

We had this game Demo-ing at the last FBL.

It wasn't too bad; but doesn't really stand up to the latest FPS games tbh.

Note: Obviously we were only playing on a beta, so not the final product. :)

did that demo have all the normal mapping and lighting effects enabled?

The Demo at FBL was an early multiplay build only, they have re-done the engine since then and added ALOT of new features! Just waiting for the release!

Another game to watch is Battlefield 2, that is on its way soon [March?]

The game I am personally waiting for it Starship Troopers, upto something rediculous like 1000 bugs onscreen at once!! wow!

i was born on 24th april 1986. No real reason why the game should be considered offensive. Consider all the WWII shooters, and pacific war shooters. Can't imagine it would be any more offensive than say, C&C Generals. I personally look foward to it, would add a bit of variety to the genre.

Generals is topical... thats why its been banned in australia and germany...
Its hardly graphic or disrespectful to anyone but terrorists (although some chinese people did complain that terrorists blowing up that building at the start of the chinese campaign was 'disgraceful')

*tangent*

So using the site of the world's worst nuclear accident is sick? In STALKER, you have strange beasties inhabiting a slightly warped, twisted world.
Sounds similar to HalfLife/HL2 to me. :)

i was looking at some promo footage a while back, the team creating the game are based about 30 miles from the edge of the restricted zone, and many of them know exactly what happened that day. if they don't have a problem with it then i don't see why anyone else should.

i just want to see it released.

Be sure to tell EA to apologise for WW2.
