Friday 21st Jan
1400-1605 Checkin at London Waterloo International
Checkin with Rail Europe Snowtrain (hereby ST) rep at the Eurostar Checkin desk

1642 Eurostar departs
Runs direct to Paris, we are in standard class (comfy enough). Light refreshments can be purchased from the onboard buffet cars and toilets are at the end of each carrage.

2023 Eurostar arrives en Paris
Baggage Handling
Luggage trolleys will be available on arrival for storage of luggage for the 2.5 hours gap between trains. Keep hand luggage with you.

2030-2230 Interim period
They advise we stock up on snacks, water, drinks, etc for the journey further south. There are lots of bars and restaurants around the station, so we could go and have a quick bite to eat, then head on back.

2230 Reclaim luggage
45 mins before departure Sernam baggage handlers will bring all stored luggage to the train where it will be ready for reclaim so we can get it onboard. Please ensure you have everything before boarding.

2245 Checkin for overnight service
Checkin with Snowtrain reps on the platform 30 mins before departure of the train. Train is a scheduled SNCF service, so will not wait if one of us is missing.

2314 Snowtrain departs for les Alpes

Arrival in the Alps starts from 6.30 at Chambery through to us at Bourg St Maurice at 0838. Basically we are at the end of the line so we can leisurely get off the train.

AFAIK Transfers are sorted on to the chalet from there. Will post about that separately.

We are in 6 berth compartments on carriage 13 (lucky!). 6 of the eight are in compartment 7, a select 2 are in compartment 6 (in the middle bunks).
Disco is between carriages 11 and 12, so not far away! Luggage is stored in berths, either under the lower bunks, or above door/window.

Toilet facilities are at the ends of carriages.

Thats the outgoing journey.

Inbound is simpler to explain.
Saturday 29th January
Checkin between 1800 and 1830 at Bourg St Maurice then depart at 1905.
Arrive en Paris at 0630
Gap between 0630 and 0715 for brekkie.
Checkin starts 0715 for Eurostar - queues are long airport style AFAIK.
Eurostar departs 0807, arrives back in London at 1001.
Disembark, get luggage, fond farewell, onward travel for us all, especially the Northerners.

Points:
Please check your passports - same as every flight you would take. If not current then panic NOW!
Visas - I dont think this applies, but if anyone is not an EU citizen, please ensure you have the right visa.
Luggage - We will be lugging our own down train corridors. All, and Baroness especially, please do not pack the world, cos you will be carrying it.
Money - Gaps in travel in Paris will mean you will be spending money. Please make sure you have € not defunct FF or £/$/etc. Either that or cash machine with a Cirrus marked card (European wide ATM network)
Munchies/Entertainment/Books/IPods/Deck of cards - Bring some this is the perfect time for games of Poker, Blackjack, M:TG (omg no), and other things.

Please also now check
E111 - Free reciprocal healthcare thing available from the Post Office. Take along Passport et voila!
Travel insurance - Please make sure you have it, and its snow sport compatible. It is essential.

Quick straw poll
Let me know what sort of food/restaurant you might want to go to en Paris. I will do some research then. Post below.

Have a good one.

The times take into account the timezone change? So it's only a 3, not 4, hour trip to Paris? :)

Are we all meeting in London pre train time at all?

I doubt that because of some people probably working some that day, that we will be meeting up beforehand.

Best to set a time to meet in Waterloo station and go from there. Check in is 2 - 4pm, so meet at 3pm is a good compromise?
