Rita - Queen of Speed
(http://www.riderita.com/)
Finally a decent ride for UG land :)

Side note.. Thorpe park are building a giant fly swat (call the slammer) in 2005, no coasters.
Drayton Manor are also having a new coaster, looks interesting, but no pictures...
Thats it for coasters in the U.K. for 2005 (Well the announced ones!).

From the international rollercoaster Database...

"Rita" is only the code or project name of this roller coaster at this point. I will most likely change before the roller coaster opens.
They might change the name?, only annoying thing is, originally they were going to have a big woody coaster, I'd much prefer that to this..(but this is better than no coaster).

Heh you get to "Ride Rita" ;)

OMG well spotted, I wonder if Tussards know this already, bought rights to use the image. I wonder if they need rights to use the portion of the picture?, it's obvious (now) copyright infringment if they dont have rights.

Probably Lazy Agency, but I've worked with a few Creative Directors from reasonably sized agencies, and two of them now have said "Make a dozen changes, and no-one will bother to sue".

The golden rule seems to make it different enough, and a dozen changes is the magic line.,.. Of course, it's not legally correct, but who am I to pooh-pooh their real world experience?

But often working with you own stock is so much easier.

4.7G's ouch That's more G-force than the Space Shuttle pulls on launch (about 3G).

I thought launches were nearer 6-7?

I know some fighters can achieve 8 in "unrecommended" maneuvres. 3G sounds a bit pussy considering you're leaving a gravity well as considerable as ours!

afaik, rocket launch pulls 3-4 Gs, it's Reentry that presses on you for 7-8Gs

Switch: Indeed. That ride is NEVER being ridden again. once every 4 and a half years is good enough for me.

I do not think they are afraid of the ride, I think it's more the case that it is as rough as hell. The corkscrew must be getting on to be 25 years old now, it certainly isn't as popular as other rides (anymore), yet it stays. At a guess I reckon this year will be it's last year, it will be removed and a new super woodern coaster will be built.. (wishful thinking).

corkscrew?

you pussies

Gunsmith

not everyone has shock absorbant body mass to save them cabe. i for one have no intention of riding it/breaking my neck on it.

Killy

i'd ride it again but my shoulders had red marks on them for a good day or two after last time :p:

Seriously, are we talking about the same coaster? It was really bloody tame when I went on it, I won't go on it again, more due to boredom...

Elbonio
25th January 2005, 18:10
corkscrew used to be cutting edge

now its just cutting

whiplash all round

Tsung
25th January 2005, 18:55
Boff you must be the ideal height for the seats, usually when they lock down on me I can feel them crushing my spine. The ride itself is very very rough, but tame as rollercoasters go. If they was to put a new corkscrew in it's place, we'd all skip it as a "childrens ride".

I remember when it was the star attraction, and there was no "theming" to speak off. Way back in 1985 time.. :O

I think the swatter ride will be open this year? Is that right?

I have the distinct feeling that the Rita ride will suck, mainly because it cant go above the tree line, so its very restrictive of what they can do.

Think fast trip through the trees.

The starting mechanism is a very unique experience, but that on its own... nah.

Toptotty
26th January 2005, 11:24
Can't they dig down tho?

It seems to be why AT sucks for wheelchairs - so many hills :/

Ok, Mandy...

Apparently The Slammer (http://www.thorpepark.com/Tussauds/WebSite.do?id=515.54.5003) is going to be open when you visit Thorpe Park.. It's like a giant fly Squat.. :O. Another ride RUSH wont be open until May.
As for Rita, it sounds interesting, it might use the valley?, plenty of down/up there (it was where they were planning on building a big woodie coaster).
NEXT YEAR @ Thorpe park, have plans for a launch coaster. A simple design, it shoots you out of the station, up roughtly 200ft, then back down. Apparently like Kingda Ka [picture] (http://www.rcdb.com/ig2832.htm?picture=25). (Kingda Ka is the one in the background btw!). More coasters, can never have enough coasters.. :)

TTD will always own all these UK launch coasters :P

Tsung
26th January 2005, 11:54
Agreed, and I do not understand why somewhere like Alton Towers, Thorpe Park or indeed Blackpool Pleasure beach (space permitting) don't go for a massive launch coaster.
I apprecate that AT is a tad screwed, with neighbours (the sheep) bleating on about the noise. It is also limited on height restrictions (tree line) becuase of some idealistic? people who dont want it to spoil the view.
Blackpool pleasure beach is space restricted, whenever I visit I'm amazed they get so many rollercoasters in such a small space. Coasters going over/under each other in the most imaginative ways.
Which leaves Thorpe Park, really the only option, and it appears they are slowly building it up to be a most excellent park.

Thorpe will be better than Alton Towers soon on rides, in fact it probably already is. However they lose out due to no hotel, they lose out BIG time.

Lucifa

Aww, I like the corkscrew.
It's got a nice "will i/won't i" feeling to it*
