View Full Version : Manchester Night Out!
Bonkers
13th December 2004, 18:39
This as posted is a followup to Hot Blackpool Action that was had in October! By Myself, AndyF and Afty
Absolutely phemominal night out! And i want the same! But with more lovely people!
It will now be forever known as Hot Manchester Action (HMA)
It will take place some time in february. Im thinking the weekend of the 17th.
Commencing well wheneva you would like. Plan - well what people want. We can LAN for the weekend. Or you can come down for the night for the beers - stay then go the next day. (Beds subject to availablility!)
Plan 1) Come down saturday morning - go out shopping do something fun saturday day. Hit the local round here at around 6ish - then head into manchester at around 9 - get sloshed and return home at 3am sometime.
Plan 2) Come down friday - takeaway/meal friday night - beers LAN ect. Then add Plan 1 in
Plan 3) Suggest your own.
The occassion is to be announced but its going to be big! (some of you have heard already ;) ) but i would like all those lovely people that would like to attend to suggest ideas ect here :) Or dates, or stuff.
Postcode is OL26PH for multimap hacks - and liftage can be arranged from the station (Piccadilly - central Manc - or Shaw for the local!)

Yeh weekend 25th-27th would be good. 2 weeks after stratlan, and plenty of recovery time for i23.
What is the average train journey from london to manc? Also the same for car, to get a rough idea of whether I'll be taking Friday afternoon off.
Bonkers
13th December 2004, 19:51
your talking 3-4 hours by car - 4-5 hours by train
car is best doing - M25 - M42 - M40 - M6 - M60 - M62
train is woking - london (tube - victoria) - london (train - euston) - manchester piccadilly.
Cost will probably be about the same dependant on car (smart car would be cheaper) Also speed
From London its 2-3 car 3 - 4 train :) Above is direct from Woking

I find M25-M40-M42-M5-M6-M60-M62 to be better for traffic. The Brum section of the M6 is mainly HELL on toast most times of the day.

M40 - M42 - M6Toll - M6
I got the Manchester Motorway turnoff last night at 8pm approx. 1 hour fifteen minutes after leaving Stratford. From there it's another 20 mins approx. to the Centre of Manc or going to Bonkers' is 30 mins (around the ring road).

sounds pritty cool
I do lots of london manchester jouneys
if you are win and have a student rail card its about £38 return and takes 2hours 20mins
The alternative is if you book early is to fly,
BMI do london manchester (from Heathrow) for £8 to have to pay airport taxes but that comes out at about £50
Also Virgin have fully rolled out there new trains on the london manchester route, and there nice train (with lappy power point) and go every half an hour. 10 past and 20 to the hour

So what week is currently penciled in? I have it down as 25th-27th, However I recently found out CLUK is that weekend.
So current lan schedule around that time is:
Stratlan: 11th-13th Feb
Cluk: 25th-27th Feb
FBL: 4th-6th Mar
So for a totally lan-free weekend, the week after stratlan (18th-20th) might suit some people better.
I'm easy either weekend as I'm not attending CLUK, but I beleive Wizzo & Heron are.

If I am able to attend (or Silk75) then we can obviously sleep a few at our place. Our place is PARTICULARLY suited for those coming from the airport or training from the South as we (Wilmslow) are a cheap taxi from the airport, Wilmslow Train Station is on many London Routes, and Macclesfield and Stockport are on other London routes, and both are close by.

We also need to sort out sleeping space - can people post below if they need sleeping space
afty
18th January 2005, 17:32
I'll work out how many we can kip here, and then make offers. All people coming via the airport should consider sleeping at my gaff, as it's about 3 miles as the crow flies (Bonkers is about 25 miles!) and taxis to/from should cost you less then a tenner - you can fit 3 or so of you in one bomber if you're on the same or similar flights.
The accomodation at our gaff needs to be decided by the 12th of Feb - that is, the last time you can talk to me about it is at StratLAN as I fly off skiing the day after. You could ask me about it after the 12th on the phone, but this will cost you beer because my phone will be £11/min at the top of a foreign mountain :)
We have a limited amount of bedding here (2 airbeds, sleeping bags, sofa) so some of you will will need to bring bedding, you will ALL need to bring pillow material and those borrowing airbeds will have to pump them up alone ;)

ATM i can house another 3/4 - Bootz and AndyF both have bed hacks. One more can sleep with Andy in the double (LUCKY PERSON!) - then ive got an airbed and some bedding.
And anyone coming REMEMBER PHOTO ID - anyone looking under 21 now gets IDed in MOST places (EVEN TESCO - yes haha ect andy :P) If you dont have it - they wont let you in. And if we dont go in - you either get left behind or we have < sense of humour

trying not to temt fait but virgin has improved greatly recently. its now under 2hours london manchester and in my last 8 london manchester jouneys only one has been delayed (by one hour which was a bugger)
All the trains have power points for laptops which is great

I hope you've taken delays into account.
I might take a photo of the departures board at new street tonight just to show you how bad the Delay situation is.
Last year to sum it up.
Virgin: 70% of all my trains had some delay
Southwest: 10%
Silverlink: 5%
Centro: 30%
Central Trains: 10%
Chiltern: 0% (go chiltern and your super cheap london prices)
as a rough estimation.
The rule of the trains is to always leave about an hour 2 hours of "delay time"
afty
19th January 2005, 14:21
1.30 arr London Euston
4.42 dep London Waterloo
So about three hours to get across London, including delays.

Mega amount of walking?
depends how well planned it is, The clubs are spread accross the city in little clusters, so it's good to hop between the few clubs in one area and then move onto the next
so as long as we keep the hops short then you'll be ok.
As for seats i would think most places do have seats, though - believe it or not - i've not actually managed to go in every single club so i cant say for sure!
