To avoid narking off the non-Magic-ites, a thread for any magic related comments.
Quite legitimate, it's a fairly jargonistic subject, though I'm willing to teach anyone who wants to learn.
Also, I found Zak's perfect card.

Hmm, just realised I got the Boolean logic wrong on the poll. I was hoping to find out how many of the people going are going to play magic. But obviously all those who read the poll but aren't actually going have no choice but to hit "No".
Bleh.

Yeah so I'm not on the ski trip but I sneaked in here anyway.
How long does all this shizzle take to learn? I remember someone attempting to explain it to me at a StratLan, but don't seem to recall anything apart from afty and .bfc. getting very irate.

You really hve to learn by participation, it confused the HELL out of me when I was just watching. I still balls up on the rules occasionally.

You can easily learn all the basic rules to a decent level of proficiency in one night, if you can get the attention of a long term player - talk basics for 10 mins, then watch a game or two, then be talked through a game or two then PLAY a game or two in a team with the experienced player sat next to you on your team. Once you're a few hours in you'll have learned all there is to know about the basics...

My current Kamigawa want list runs to:
Rarity Card Amount
R Nezumi Shortfang 3
R Kiku, Nights Flower 1
R Glimpse Of Nature 3
R Kodama of the South Tr 1
R Journeyers Kite 3
R Long Forgotten Gohei 3
R Moonring Mirror 3
U Nezumi Graverobber 3
U Hana Kami 3
U Akki Coalflinger 3
U Thief Of Hope 3
U Pinecrest Ridge 3
U Lantern Lit Graveyard 1
U Honden of Infinite Rage 1
U Honden of Nights Reach 1
U Honden of Lifes Web 1
C Kami of the Hunt 1
C Glacial Ray 1
If you have any of this stuff I have some rather nice swapsies. A Time Stop and 2 Yosei Morning Stars (to name just the two rarest and most popular cards) - though you will have to tempt me with quite a bit to part with them :)

Well, you don't want much do you. :)
I can sort you for the glacial ray, the red honden and the pinecrest ridges off the top of my head. I'll check the rest.
Obviously that won't be in time for StratLAN tho. :(

No worries, the two decks I've created from my Kamigawa stuff seem to be opening OK, but the real tests will come at Stratty... they can always wait for a few extra cards at New Years.

I have some of those Afty, maybe we can do some dealings :) My 'must have' list is currently:
Rarity Card Amount
R Budoka Gardener 3
R Meloku the Clouded Mirr 3
R Azusa, Lost But Seeking 2
R Keiga, the Tide Star 2
U Time of Need 2
U Honden of Lifes Web 2
Oh and some land would come in handy, yes :)

Im fairly sure I have a Gardener here, and at least one of those legends. The Honden of Lifes Web tho are required to pump my spirit deck.
Top of the want list are : Journeyers Kite, Long Forgotten Gohai and an extra (I have one, but want a more consistent drop) Kodama of the South Tree is currently my number 1 target :)

Blimey, Legend-tastic.
You two are aware of the new Legend rule, yes?
Playing one legendary something with another copy already in play kills both...
Makes popping dragons very easy...

Yep, that's why I've reduced my South Kodama requirement to 1 (extra) and shrines too (2 in the deck seems reasonable to make it more consistent) though it looks like I forgot to update my list earlier. :)

Just to clarify things, do we have a house ruling on the use of Proxies? I've got a deck which can be a lot stronger for the presence of two copies of something I really haven't been able to find...

We will allow you to take a blank sheet of card and write on it any card that you think exists. It makes the game much more fun.
Just watch out for the Tiniest Violin in the World.

Omfugger, if we're allowing proxies then the worlds nastiest deck EVAR is coming to France. You have been warned.

Possibly a limit to the number used would be advisable... Say two, or possibly four?
Afty

If I can proxy a full deck, we'll have plenty of firstturn wins :)

Bwahahaha! The mail order card shop you are using is about 4 miles from me and has a nice LAN Gaming centre in the basement :) I knew they were good for MtG but not quite that good!

Can someone with skills hack a picture for the proxy of Worlds Smallest Violin.
It will fit perfectly into the Unhinged Draft as an extra card...

If you have a card already then

If not then send me the info and I can notch up the template with a nifty card editor thing I found on the interweb :)

I already have everything done, card, text, rules etc. - shame people started asking for this as it was going to be a surprise on the ski trip (sneak it into someones deck) though I do need to edit the image slightly and get it done on a decent printer.
It is then, as a one-off card, intended to be a present for a friend of mine :)
