So Multiplay now have alot of adverts from all sorts of companies (Nationwide?!?!), what's people's take on this?
The only one i think that bothers me is the casino.net one which i dont think is appropriate....

If they were gaming/PC related I wouldn't really be bothered.
But Domino's, bank accounts, mobile phones, etc. is annoying, we get enough of that crap on the TV. :(

Something to do with beggars and choosers seems appropriate here.
I guess Multiplay can't fill the page impressions with directly gaming related ads, so those people with almost infinitely deep marketing pockets (mobile phone, dial-a-loan etc etc) will step in to fill the void.

I know that's how it works but it's still annoying. :p:

Having relevant (-ish) advertising has been nice, but it's only ever been a matter of time before commercial pressure will drive this kind of thing through.
Wait 'till the double glazing and life insurance salesmen start turning up at LANs. :)

Banner ads are there for a reason, MPUK need them to help support the financial side of things and they aren't too intrusive.
It doesn't bother me too much as long as they don't start having full popup ads.

Doesn't really bother me, I don't see them... my brain kind of skips over any regular sized/shaped adverts on pages and has for years...
As for Casinos, they seem pretty relevant to me. Quite alot of MPUK regulars go to/have been in a casino, and Poker is pretty popular.

Hey, i clicked the 10% off P&P ad just now mostly because i have no idea what P&P is. So i go to the site and find that they sell clothing. Now interestingly enough, i am in need of a winter coat. Sadly though, does not seem to be my style.

Like Afty I automatically ignore adverts, worse thing mpuk *could do* is have them stupid in your face flash style adverts.. If it ever went that far, I'd stop visiting the site...

Personally I think good advertising banners have a positive impact on the site. They help liven it up a bit and so long as they are relevant also help contribute to the running of this online gaming community.
If you like the MPUK community I would hope you would want to support us by checking out some of these adverts. I have personally selected them so you won't be seeing any double-glazing ads :)
Banner and tower is as far as it will go. You won't be seeing annoying popups on this site I can tell you!

With the amount of CC abuse that goes on in the MPUK community I would have thought the Nationwide ad relevent ;p

Pimping and Powning.
Ive found the ADS on Multiplay so far over the last few months to be very handy, I've clicked almost all of them and looked or purchased something, so directly related is good!

I'd forgotten that MPUK had ads on the site until I reinstalled a mate's PC this evening. A quick HOSTS file + adblock extension later and all the ads just.... disappeared! Considering he's on 56k, it could even mean his pages load that little bit more quickly.
Having all ads removed makes things much tidier IMO.

Zenith, blocking ads on the Multiplay Site? I hope you not!

I would imagine his ad-blocker is not discriminatory... and will block all ads regardless of source site.

Absolutely. Hello winter wardrobe. Many thanks MPUK forums ads. <!--insert thumbs up and cheesy grin here-->

Afty speaks the truth. If the ad system that MPUK has subscribed to is one of the "main" ones (Doubleclick, Falkag, Burstnet etc etc) then chances are that it is blocked.
It isn't anything against MPUK individually as a company. The approach is very scattered in a shotgun style.

I'd be interested to know if you can still see the big flash ad on the main site advertising our Xmas CS:S promo. Do the stratlan banners get filtered out too as they do not use a major ad site?

Adblock has picked up the iframe that the adds are in rather than the adds themselves. So it's blocking banner.php

I think my ONLY gripe is that the ads don't open in a 'New Window'.. you lose where you are on the MPUK site. Makes clicking an interesting ad annoying when you lose where you are on the fourms.....
