Ok, I state the obvious, but my question is...

If you could be told exactly what day your going to die on, and the exact way your going to die.. Would you want to know?

The Advantages of knowing..
You could plan for your death, you might even come to terms with it, you can ensure you've made your peace with everybody, you can ensure you've done everything you've ever wanted to do before you pass away.
The Disadvantages of knowing...
It could be Next Month, It could be tomorrow, heck it could be later on today!!! (remember no-one ever believe that today could be their last day on earth). It could cause you stress, knowning your going to die in a horrific manner, You might try to avoid it.

Oh please discuss below.. your reasons... :)

It's a two post poll, yes, no... Simple enough, none of this I dont know, only on a tuesday, Yes - except, No- But, bollox that a lot of polls seem to go for..

I know what you said... but:

I'd only want to know if it's not a painfull death. ;)

I wouldnt want to know because i'd be too tempted to spend the rest of my life selfishly (sorry, but i wouldn't really see the point in wasting my time helping other people when i only had a limited amount of time to do what i want).

So basically i'd end up spending whatever remaining time i had on this earth holding Sarah in my arms, and I for one know that very many people would get angry at me for ignoring them.

if i know when and how im going to die its set in fate

Therefore whatever i do between now and then would mean im invincible.
run in front of cars, jump off buildings
It would defeat the object of life if you were bound to a contract of living till your expiry date. Whenever that maybe.

No it wouldnt, you might end up being horrificially injured whilst tempting "fate", but not actually killed. Invincible means you couldn't be hurt, what im saying is you would be hurt just not killed by your careless actions. Eventually you would die by the method forseen.. (run over by bus, whatever).

I wouldn't wanna know, I think I'd probably just live trying to avoid the situation shown or something, which would be a pretty crap existance, nah, I'm fine not knowing thanks :D

so you say "tell you what... dont tell me if it's a painful horrible death"

and Death/god whoever is telling you this says "oh... in that case i wont tell you"

doesnt that make it worse?

I'd want to know because then I could live my life to the full, safe in the knowledge I can do what I like and it won't kill me.

Bungee? Car racing? Other extreme activities... I'll have some of THAT thanks. :)

I know that maybe to start with I'd be fine with it, but as things got closer, I'd probably drive myself insane thinking about it.

Why can't you live your life to the full and do loads of extreme activities without knowing when you will die? Live every day as if it is your last anyway, enjoy yourself. We're only here once, so why not just enjoy it without having death hanging over you?

yea, but you might have an accident which leaves you crippled for life or something

If I knew I'd see no point in anything, hell I barely do now - so I'd probably end up killing myself just so I wouldn't have to wait.

surely if you knew how you were going to die you would try to avoid it though if i were to die by being shot while running away from a gang of thugs, then surely my jumping off a building would not effect the thugs, nor would swallowing knives or any other deadly activity because you know whatever you do, you will be fit and able to run...

so fate has its loop holes

Not really :), I think you'd only be told your going to be shot, nothing more. If fate does exsist it has a tendancy to play cruel hands anyways. So lets say you were told you'll be run over by a bus, to prevent this you decide to stay @ home all day, with no intention of leaving the house, and your not on any public bus routes.. Chances are you will still be run over by the bus, either by it crashing into your house (maybe it was stolen?) or some event forcing you out of your house so your in harms way.
Sometimes I wonder when I hear about people who get killed in freak accidents in the news. Has their hand been played and they were going to die that way anyways? or was it indeed a freak accident of chance?.

surely by trying to avoid it you may inadvertantly get yourself killed...

for example, you are prophesised to be run down by a bus...
You spend the rest of your life avoiding buses by staying indoors, but when you least expect it, whilst watching TV one night, the local National Express comes careering through the wall taking you out...

ok but with a specific date and time you could jump in front of any bus until that date and time i.e.

10:45 on 22nd november 2058
Hit by a bus

so until that date i wont die
i can't die
i can feel tremedious amounts of pain
be shot
stabbed whatever but i will still live on until i get hit by a bus on the date

Besides if fate is set out, then whatever you do your bound to find out your going to die on the date, and therefore are bound to do whatever wild things you have "chose" to do as these all will lead to the event of dying.

Wording is everything, you may have got hit by a bus a year before, and been in a comma, and then at 10:45 on 22nd november 2058 they might decide there is no hope and turn off the life support machine. This still makes the thing true, yet you were not hit by a bus on the date it said, that was just when you died because of it.
